Transfer at Schiphol Amster, for flight Basel- San Francisco

We are flying from Basel to San Francisco via Schiphol on KLM. Depart Basel at 06:45AM and arrive 08:20 Amsterdam. Our flight to San Francisco departs an hour and half later at 09:50AM> We are checking all baggage except a couple very small carry-ons straight thru from Basel to San Fran. Will we have to go thru customs and security at Schiphol to change flights, and if so, is 1hour 30 min enuf time? I booked this flight as normal connecting with KLM. Thanks for any advice!!

No immigration, but security will be at the gate. Get there early as they interview each passenger. 90 minutes is enough time.

Large but very easy airport to navigate. 1:30 is a very comfortable connection there. I've had many that were a lot less.

Good luck.

Unlike most airports, you cannot clear security and then purchase a bottle of water to take on the plane. You have to go through security to pass into the gate area where you will board your plane. So you need to hope that the FA can provide an adequate and frequent supply of beverages, because you may not bring your own.

They still ask all those questions about whether you packed your own suitcase. They ask of anyone requested you to carry something for them, if your luggage has been left anywhere unsupervised etc. It takes a bit of time asking these questions of every passenger.

Usually they start to board international flights as much as one hour before departure time, so it does not hurt to arrive a bit early.

Yes - I checked it in at Basel and I haven't seem it since, it's been in an aircraft hold therefore it must have been unsupervised

Actually since Switzerland is in the Schengen area you will have to cross the "border" at Schiphol so you will have to go through passport control to get to the non Schengen area of the airport. 90 minutes will be "enuf" time to do this though.

Don't delay going through to the non Schengen area as passport control can be very busy and slow. After that you will hopefully have time to get a coffee/shop. As said security will be at the gate so only liquids in tamper proof bags are allowed and small under 100ml ones of course

You can.

On this particular itinerary (Schengen to non-Schengen) you have two options:

- Buy your water on the Schengen side (which is a secure area) and get it sealed in a special tamper-proof bag, as per standard EU procedures (note that only a small number shops have the facility to seal bags, so you have to go to the right place)

- Go the the Delicatessen shop on the non-Schengen side. Although this is not in the secure area they have an arrangement that allows them to seal certain items in tamper-proof bags, and their list includes small (300 ml) bottles of water
