With United you usually get a choice between a slew of FF miles, an e-cert for a fixed sum discount off a future domestic flight or e-cert for a percentage discount (in my case 20%) of any flight.

If BA offers e-certs, read the T+Cs before choosing. In my case, the 20% discount was for economy class only, and 20% off base fare only (did not include UA's international surcharge that's included in the advertized fare). In my case that was okay for me and I accepted it.

Were the booked flights on seperate tickets ?

If you're not happy with BA's offer contacting your travel insurance company might be worth a try.

'... thats what iam after...' What, very specifically, would you like BA to offer with respect to the matter?

Why do you want paper? You want them to give you money? Is this what you mean?

Have you spoken to your travel insurers? How long were you delayed for departing heathrow, and what action did they take o get you to your first arrival destination? I think you need to give a bit more detail.
