Does anyone know if it is possible to book a return flight to Sydney Australia ONLINE with a stop off at thailand and stay there for about 4 weeks, then go to to Australia for 4 weeks, ending up in Sydney for the return flight back home? Or is this only possible with a travel agent? The reason being, it is cheaper for a return flight to Australia rather than one way.

You will need a multi city flight to include your stopover and it can be done online - search on matrix to find out which airlines offer this option (click on the multi city tab).

Alternatively a good travel agent could do this for you - try the likes of Trailfinders.

Do not consider one way tickets as these are normally very expensive.

You can do it with Malaysia Airlines to but would have to transit through KL. I did a mock booking for one month to Bangkok then one month Sydney and return and it allows it no problems - however as Douglass suggested - try doing it with Thai airways and select the multi-city fare.

Most of the airline websites allow you to book the multi flight option so it won't be a problem.
