im flying edinburgh/beijing and transfer at asterdam is 1hr 20mins enough time between planes thanks

Are you flying both legs on KLM as one booking? If yes then 80 minutes should be tight but you should make it as Schiphol is a good airport to transfer.

If you are on two seperate bookings then it could be a problem - especially if your flight from EDI-AMS is delayed then you will be classed as a 'no show' for your Beijing flight.

As noted, assuming it's one booking you should be fine. AMS is one of my favorite transfer airports in the world. I had a similar transfer a few weeks ago from the USA transiting to MUC. Even had time for a 30 minute stop at the KLM lounge.
