Stoopid Iberia website - Advance Passenger Information

Am flying Iberia in a few weeks (London to Madrid) so decided to insert my API to make things quicker when I OLCI 24 hrs before flight.

I inserted all the passport information required. But it has a Visa Information section which I ignored because as an Eu citizen I don't need or have a visa. In any case the website indicates with an asterix those fields which are necessary and those which are not. The Visa information section is not asterixed.

But the Iberia website rejected my input as it insisted I complete the visa section.

I managed to speak to a person. First she said as I booked through an agent I need to input these details through the agent. Loada Cr@p.

Then she said that as an Eu citizen I did not need to complete the API. I suspect another loada cr@p. I did not want to delay my OLCI as I would be hoping to choose seating.

Thankfully, although the flight is shown as an Iberia flight with an Iberia booking ref, it is operated by British Airways. I managed to complete my API input using the BA website.

Does everything really need to be so traumatic with this airline?

Absolutely, loada cr@pp is the term, I suggest you reread your post, api is not required when travelling to Spain from uk. And if someone else made the booking, yes, they may indeed need to enter the info for you, it depends how it was booked, although this would be more unusual.

> does everything need to be as traumatic with this airline?< . No, absolutely not, but by thinking you knew better only you made it so.

If you are inexperienced and unsure when it comes to air travel, use a good agent, one you can speak to face to face, who can help you avoid this sort of confusion.

Spain has required API for flights from the UK/Ireland since June 2007.

Wow! I thought inserting API was merely good practice. I did not realise it was essential.

I presume the airline would have prompted me to insert these details had I not done so. I would certainly not rely on my agent (Expedia in this case) to do so. In fact Expedia gave me a "confirmation code" and a "booking ref" and incorrectly told me to insert the former for OLCI.

It is also needed in order to fly to Britain, including from EU countries.

Maybe the recent question about whether one can carry meat products from Scotland to Wales does not seem so stoopid today.
