Thank worldvoyager

Does the 93.9 dollars represent a barrel (b) under 30 cents a litre?

Correct.

However that's the refinery price. The airlines will pay slightly more.

93.9 / 159 = 0.59, so $93.9/barrel means 59 cents/litre.

Hard to say. Most airlines hedge so they are paying historical prices anyway, and the bigger the airline, the more negotiating power they have. Southwest, Ryanair and Easyjet will be able to negotiate prices much closer to the refinery price than a smaller outfit like Jet2 for example.

You're only allowed to carry-on 100ml these days, anyway.

And keep it well away from Qatari diplomats on the flight...

Interesting. I was recently on a flight with KLM on a little Fokker (one I actually did manage to catch) and the re-fueling truck pulled up as we were on a remote stand at Schiphol. There was a large red read out of the fuel it pumped and it was over 7000L so at say 60c per litre approx $4200.

Don't know if that was for the out and inboud flight fuel load but I guess gives you an idea of the fuel cost on a flight against what you pay for the ticket.

It will also vary by location where the plane is being serviced. Just like buying gasoline at the only station for 100 miles, if you fly to a remote airport it will be more expensive. At times airlines will ferry the fuel inbound to avoid having to fill up for their return trip. They burn more because of the added weight, but it can still be cheaper than buying expensive fuel.
