Why can't I understand the staralliance/oneworld etc website

I've been trying to plan my trip online but can't make head nor tail of the trip planning websites.

Basically I want to travel from UK to Sydney, then various places around Australia, on to Auckland and Fiji and then back to UK.

Can somebody please advise me the best way to do this in order to find the most economical fare?

Many thanks.

you might want to look @ Qantas & Air New Zealnds web sites and look for either circle pacific fares or airpass with your long haul flight.

Do you want to fly from Fiji back to the UK via Australia or continue making your way east, and travelling via North America?

It sounds as if you need a RTW ticket if the latter; if so have a look at the links below for a primer on RTW with each alliance.

oneWorld's Circle Pacific fares may be of interest to you if you'd like to fly from LHR-SYD then back again after having travelled to Fiji. The StarAlliance South Pacific Airpass may work a treat if you'd rather fly with those member airlines.

Thank you wesheltonj and TravellerPlus.

Did you mean that I'd do better to buy a return flight from London to Sydney and then buy a separate Oz / NZ / Fiji circle ticket?

Basically I just want to do whatever costs the least money.

My previous advice for you to use a travel agent still holds.

Agree. A travel agent specialising in round-the-world tickets will find the cheapest price for you.

Hi,

Agree.. Go see a reputable agent that has experience in RTW tickets..

RTW tickets are somewhat a unique product that has some odd restrictions to them that you need to be aware of such as: possible mileage limitations, minimum and maximum periods of stay, minimum and maximum number of stops, permitted routing, backtracking, etc.

Find an agent that has experience with these.. You can by all means use the alliance websites to help you design your trip such as preferred stops and take that information with you when you see the agent.

Also, as always mentioned here.. Be sure to either have or purchase a good comprehensive travel insurance policy.

Thank you Numbat. I do definitely intend to do that because it seems such a complicated process and there's no way I'd get it right - I'd probably end up paying way too much! I'm going to go to Trailfinders because they'll know all the ins and outs. Fortunately I live in quite a big town so I should be able to find several travel agents to help me compare prices. I was just trying to look into the possibilities online so that I knew the sort of prices to expect but I'm not very techie at all, I'm afraid!!

GOPBI thank you also. That's exactly why I looked at the alliance websites - to help me plan where I want to go and in which order - where to stop etc - and above all to get an idea of prices.

Thank you also for your advice about travel insurance. I may need to upgrade mine before I leave.

Deja Vu is kicking in all over again, didn't we previously advise you contact Trailfinders, TravelBag, etc?
