Am an AirNZ FF.

What the press release neglects to mention is that from 1 December the number of airpoints needed for upgrades will increase.

For example, a one way standby upgrade from economy to business travelling from Auckland to Eastern Australia or the Pacific Island will increase from 220 to 250 airpoints dollars.

A one way confirmed upgrade (only allowed if one purchases a full fare or have gold elite status, I think) will increase from 220 to 350 airpoints dollars.

Still the fact that there will be recognition for those flying on cheap flights without airpoints is an advantage in that the status points count towards an increase in card status, eg from jade (basic) to silver and so on up to gold elite.
