USA Airline Mergers

Good news! Continental will stay independent, and US Airways is considering a deal with UAL:

Although I've heard CO are looking outside of Skyteam to perhaps joining the oneworld alliance. Larry Kellner is on the record as saying that.

As a oneworld and Star Alliance flyer I'd be happy for more options flying stateside.

With the Delta/Northwest merger, would it be unwise to book flights on Delta now for travel early January 2009?

Ive found good prices, but would hope that if I booked now there would be no major schedule changes... (an hour or so would be ok)

I would think it depends on the route - if it's US to Europe and it's a really good fare it's one thing but if it's domestic US I would not, but I doubt that the merger would endanger your ticket. I wish airlines would allow us to pre-purchase and lock in a fare - might be useful considering future fuel increases.

Don't let this bother you.

Involuntary reschedules happen regularly. I've never had any problems calling up the airline and suggesting I get moved to different flights at no cost. If you can't find alternatives then you can just get a refund.
