Free Personal Size Backpack On Frontier In Overhead?

First time flying on Frontier

Usually I fly Spirit using a backpack that fits the Free personal Size limits and I have no problem putting it in the overhead after boarding.

Can I do that on Frontier? or will they make me put it under the seat?

Thanks

My impression is that with most of the LCC's to use the overheads you have to pay for a carry-on item. Frontier is quite strict about what is considered a carry-on item, which can use the overhead bins, and a personal item which is listed as having to go under the seat .It may come down to how busy the flight is and/or how strict the FA's are about using the bins for personal items. Have you contacted Frontier for clarification.?

I really was looking for peoples personal experiences with flying Frontier with a free personal size bag and whether they were able to put it in the overhead without anyone saying anything.

On Spirit airlines, I have always been able to put my bag in the overhead without a problem or a talking to by the staff.

The experiences of passengers on dates A, B and C won't have an impact on your travel date D. Each flight is a discrete entity from OLCI to doors opening at the destination, and what happened today won't be the same as what happens next week.

The Frontier website notes in at least two places that the personal item needs to fit under the seat in front, and I'd expect cabin crew to stick to the rules. If there is space in a locker after other passengers have placed their bags that's one thing, but there's no guarantee your backpack will be allowed to go anywhere but under the seat in front of you.

So you are saying that the experiences of others probably wouldn't apply to me?

That is the same thing as saying that my experiences on Spirit wouldn't translate into advice that "others" could probably use the overhead storage on Spirit without trouble.

I never ask permission, I just put it up there when I get to my seat.

Have they done the same when traveling on Frontier?

I guess I don't understand why you even posted in my thread if you don't have a personal experience with putting a free personal item in the overhead on Frontier.

Oh you know they really don’t let you do this but what you’re hoping we’re going to say is oh I got away with it. That way when you get on the plane and they say no you can say well some stranger on TripAdvisor tell me that they got away with it. Because of course that defense always works. Really?

What happened to anyone else is totally irrelevant to what could happen to you. If the rules say you can’t do what you want to do it doesn’t matter if everyone else on this thread got away with it. If they tell you no, you don’t have a defense

Maybe instead of looking for the exemption you should realize that you are be expected to comply with the rules that you agree to when you book the ticket. there’s not an I’m special exemption that you’re looking for

Well I don't meet requirements either, but I'm prepared to risk it.

I have never understood why some people think other peoples experiences on a completely different flight will be in anyway related to theirs. What you have experienced on Spirit may not translate to what other people will experience. It's just downright inconsiderate and rude to put your under seat bag in the overheads without waiting to see if there is any space, and then asking a member of the cabin crew first.

"A personal item must fit under the seat in front of you". If you're not prepared to pay for a cabin bag that goes in the overheads then don't try to take advantage. Rules apply to everyone, although there's always one that thinks they're special.

I fly Frontier about six times a year and can't recall seeing a FA ask a passenger remove their personal item from the overhead bin. I put my carry-on and personal item in the overhead bin two weeks ago with no issue. Since they charge for a carry-on the bins aren't as full as other carriers.

It isn't like you will be charged for the bag or kicked off the flight if they say something, just put it under the seat.
