If you go to Tryavna (which I advise you to do) do not avoid this Bulgarian restaurant, located in the beautiful old part of town. The food is very good, the waiters are friendly (they don't speak much foreign languages, but it's not such a...big problem), the prices are more than reasonable.More

Mediocre interior and service, the food wasn't anything special, wouldn't recommend, you can get quite wrong impression what traditional Bulgarian resataurants/taverns, hospitality, and cuisine are.

Ok so we’re back in the neighbourhood so a quick trip (on the train) to Tryavna. The best bit is it’s now out of the tourist season. A mooch in the excellent gallery near the centre (some of the artwork is breathtaking and eye watering...) a wander down the cobbled main street in the old town area and time for a spot of lunch. As you may see from previous posts, I’m always looking for something traditional, but this is a tourist area so traditional style is what you get. This time we are in Balabanovata kashta (Balabanov’s house) The place is a narrow entrance off the Main Street to a courtyard- closed up for winter so we go indoors. New style old if you get my meaning - no pitch forks or folk attire just typical BG style! Food - I’m still in Rakia and Shopska salad mode - both excellent - with a little garlic flat bread and some chicken hearts in caramelised onion - don’t get all ‘urgh how could you?’ Seriously get over the heart bit and give them a try - sooooo tasty - great for snacking with Rakia/Vodka ☺️ My missus had the chicken soup which was excellent. Cheap and good grub - would suggest giving it a go - especially the chicken hearts!!More

We were disappointed after reading the good reviews. The staff was rude and food was prepared slowly. The taste is not even close to traditional cuisine. Products are not fresh which is a disappointment since we visited in late spring. Would not come back.

Decent and fresh food. The atmosphere is very cosy. Everything is very clean and maintained. Staff is polite.

The restaurant is a bit hidden, not directly by the bridge, but is absolutely worth it! Food was amazing, service was very professional and fast. Prices - absolutely fare :) Great place, we recommend it!

I liked most of the food, I liked it a lot. Avoid the "onion rings" they are rubbish like the junk McDonalds serves. They are a mish mash of doughey pulverised onion and miserable batter. They are ouy of a bag, they are nit handmade...like everything else in the menu. Some might say this place is a tourist trap, I disagree, but if it is it is the best tourist trap in Trajvna! Try the tongue in butter, we ordered it three times.More

The interior is not remarkable, but the food was terrible. I don't remember eating such tasteless lamb ever! On top of everything - it's not cheap. I woundn't visit again.

It was very quiet when we visited for lunch with Bulgarian friends who were very embarrassed about the service received from the waitress. The food was average but generous portions. Perhaps the standards would be better on a busy lunchtime?

Nice and warm restaurant. Food was really tested and big portions, but the at etude of waitres was really unfriendly like she sorry that we came in the restaurant. We suppose to go and looking for her to order more food and pay the bill....I give average points for the food, was nice. For serving I give poor. By the way, waitres didn't receive a tip.More
