I have this habit of trying every Vietnamese restaurant for "Pho" not every chef could do justice because I make it at home myself. This restaurant is so.. so. as I have tried worse places. Not many people but nice ambiance. Never tried Thai food...here so can not say much.More
Service "tried" to be good, and started off promising. Complementary tea is offered, which was unexpected, a tiny plus in the scheme of things. The food - interesting... kind of fusion-ish of Asian hawker foods including Kway Teow, Hor Fun, wonton noodles (which are actually...Malaysian /Singaporean hawker), perhaps 2 real Vietnamese dishes, and a few other random Thai dishes. The place probably should be renamed to "we don't know what to call it but we'll serve what we can cook". Flavours are not authentic but have a twist on them, which wasn't bad to be truthful and if you were open to trying fusion flavours, would be totally suitable.
The poor rating comes from the service. We ordered 3 entree & 5 mains - all simple dishes like curry puffs, satay, soup, phad thai and stir fries - entree came out in a decent time, mains was not so. A small Asian food establishment with primarily stir-fry style foods should be able to serve dishes within 10-15mins of ordering. It wasn't jam-packed with customers. After entrees were consumed, mains still weren't ready over half an hour later, yet two other tables seated after us were served theirs. The excuse given was "we had takeaway orders" but no one came in to pickup those takeaway orders whilst we were waiting.
It happened that we had to be somewhere after dinner, so this made our wait quite stressful - perhaps if we had nothing better to do for the rest of the night, we might have put up with it - but even then, should we have? It's unacceptable. Times to cook stir fry dishes with 2 cooks in the kitchen should not have taken 45mins! I had to ask for them to be takeaway and they promised a 5min wait which became 15 - turns out they hadn't even started cooking them when I followed it up! The front staff were apologetic, but seriously - if your patrons are obviously not able to wait any longer and you haven't even started cooking, SAY IT! Especially if you're going to serve uncooked or below-par food because of the rush. The full price of the bill was paid even after this with no offer of any kind, and it was a shame, because I hate wasting food. Unfortunately we'd lost our appetites by this time, and adding the rush to our destination - half of it went in the bin, half-raw prawns fully untouched. We will NOT be back nor will we be recommending this place to ANYONE.More
I'm suspicious of places which lay claim to different cuisines, and what we ordered was probably more Singaporean/Malay so add that to the mix! So fair to say its pan-SE Asian.
The dishes were very average and unremarkable. Not unpleasant, but I won't be rushing...back.More
Brought me back to my travels to Thailand and Vietnam, both areas equally the best food in SE Asia. This place had a touch of both regions, with great options to choose from. BYO, or indulge in excellent home made smoothies
