Busy and vibrant eating spot, seemingly enjoyed by visitors and locals. Enjoyed a tasty curry, accompanied by a local beer…delicious.

This charming old converted barn, transformed into a cosy but upmarket, bar and restaurant is a MUST if you find yourself in Darling West Coast of Western Cape South Africa. The ambiance is incredible, the fine dining is simply delicious, staff are amazing. Owned and...run by Derek and Nina Poole it is an absolute must for either, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Thank you Derek and Nina for a wonderful experience and one I will definitely repeat.More
The Thai curry was tender, flavoursome and wholesome. The sirloin was succulent and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the lunch. Meals were filling and side dishes plentiful.
Such an interesting place, lots of different, quirky things to look at. The guy who served us was very friendly and knowledgeable, always smiling. The food was fantastic, the best squid I’ve ever had in a restaurant. My sister asked to meet the chefs to...thank them for the great food and they were lovely guys, quite humble about their abilities. I definitely want to visit the restaurant again next time I’m here visiting my sister and her family.More
Ended up here after leaving another restaurant for bad service, maybe this was meant to be, what a great place, the service, the food, the presentation everything. You can spottend hours inside just looking at all the old things, menu is in the towns news...paper, what a genius idea. We will definately be back but if you are in Darling you must stop here for lunch or at least a drinkMore
We had a lovely breakfast at this beautiful restaurant. The decor is stunning, staff super friendly and attentive and our food was superb! Will visit again soon.
We love the old forge and enjoy their food, But I really think they should move those massive high back chairs away from the fire place, it blocks all the heat from the rest of the diners, wonderful for the two people sitting on those...chairs , while we all freeze!. Also please put a light in the toilet as we all had to take our phone's to get some light, really black in there!More
An absolute gem in the heart of Darling, the perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon with good friends, listening to Michael Lindt playing such a fabulous selection of songs. The food is always outstanding, Alex, Malvin and Cathy are incredibly attentive, thanks to Nina...and Derek for creating this little spot of old-world charm and pleasure. I highly recommend The Forge for lunch or dinner and their sister Guest House Maison De L'maour is just as quaint, Nina and Derek's attention to detail is world-class.More
My partner made a reservation for Sunday lunch at 1910 The Old Forge. We discovered the owners owned a guesthouse (Maison De La Mour) so decided to do an overnight. A great decision. We stayed in the Gardener Suite, did dinner at Old Forge as...well as lunch the following day-very different menus as Sunday lunch is 2 or 3 course Roast special with live entertainment and very reasonably priced. The Fillet Steak and Patagonian Calamari were both outstanding. We spent a wonderful Sunday afternoon listening to superb music by Cape Town musician Neil Lindt-what a voice. He apparently does weddings, birthdays, etc and has an outstanding voice. Nina was a super hostess both at the restaurant and guesthouse. cannot recommend both venues highly enough. One does need to be patient with the service, but really whats the hurry.More
We happened upon The Old Forge by chance, and what a wonderful experience we had!..... The food was superb, but more than that, our wonderful waiter - Malvin - was so cheerful and helpful in helping us to select from the menu. He was also...so helpful in responding to questions we asked about Darling and its environs... A lovely man! We had a super time, and highly recommend The Old Forge!....More

Lovely atmosphere , huge surprise .We stopped by for lunch , group of 3. Service was great , enjoyed a selection of Darling Cellars whites . We were served with freshly baked bread for the table , beautifully presented. Mains insisted of Patagonian Calamari ,...Mussels , Scallops all of which were excellent . I remarked to the chef that lunches bettered anything I had enjoyed in Cape Town that week .More

We spent a lovely Sunday afternoon in the garden at The Old Forge. Inside also looked lovely. Our Sunday Roasts were delicious. (I’m vegetarian and had over 10 different beautifully seasoned vegetables!) We had great friendly, attentive service. It was also great value. There was...a really nice atmosphere….we ended up staying the rest of the afternoon.More
