In addition it was a wonderful, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Generous portions, freshly cooked. House wine above average. Simple menu which just worked. Outstanding in its class. Highly recommended.

Maureen and I had delicately smoked trout which was absolutely superb. Carol is an accomplished chef, her food is always beautifully presented and her attention to detail in decor and service excellent. Her waitress Caroline was a joy with a radiant smile and lovely sense of humour...what a lovely evening AGAIN.

The food is very good. The staff is very nice. Great place and good complimentary. Sprinbok as realy spectacular and the house made cooking pudding for dessert exquisite. If you visit Tulbagh eat in Readers. Very good for money !

Bright smiles and friendly staff greet you here in Tulbagh. In amongst this quirky store we found delicious cauliflower soup, delectable pork chops for my better half(with a big doggy bag for me later) and scrumptious lamb fyllo pastry parcels for me. We will definitely return.

Blown away! That is the one and only thought that comes to mind when getting your plate at Readers Restaurant. As with most of the main street venues in Tulbagh, the venue is a historically protected site with antique floors, ceilings and gorgeous furniture. The restaurant itself is small (seating about 12 maximum) and is situated in a quaint store... More

A pleasant dinner in the historic Church street. A beautiful old cottage with several different rooms - including a shop. I had the fillet which was very well cooked. So nice to have a thick steak cooked perfectly.

A most awesome evening at Readers, with its cat theme. The service was excellent, the wine divine, but the food was the surprise of the night - never thought this would be a dining experience in Tulbagh!

The setting is lovely on the front stoep in the late afternoon as the sun sets over the hill and then wonder in to a cosy restaurant – candle lit tables -. Perfect balance between excellent food and the atmosphere is relaxed and romantic restaurant. The fusion of flavours great – and the ice creams a huge hit – unique... More

The oldest house in Church Street , Tulbagh – Readers.
Offering simple, outstanding local and global cuisine, has been able to maintain a standard of excellence that has created a notable reputation with both locals and tourists.
The cuisine varies on a daily basis depending on the availability of fresh produce. This provides Carol Collins – Silwood trained Cordon Bleu Chef -a certain challenge in ensuring the creation of dishes using imagination, flair and superb presentation. Certain dishes have become trademarks at Readers but the focus remains on variety, fusion of flavours and combination of unusual ingredients.
