Stopped off at Readers Tulbagh for lunch. Food was good and service was great. Typical small town hospitality. Wish the whole world was so friendly. Then the desert came. True icecream sensation with flavors you can only imagine. Wow day for me and the whole family. A must if visiting Tulbagh.

The food was very fine, the price sweet and the wine good and cheap as well. After the dinner, the chef Carol, so nice and welcoming, came and offer us to drink red wine ( was it Lareda?? ) or white with a SA group. We spend a wonderful evening in a so nice and sweet place. We recommand it... More

During our stay at Wittedrift Manor House in Tulbagh we were treated to a private Dinner Table Fest. The only word I could find was Magnificent. Snacks at the swimminpool pre dinner and Carpaccio as starter with Medallions of Fillet and Lamb chops with Roasted Veg & Potatoes was incredible. The perfect ending was an icecream tasting ... balsamic vinegar,... More

It's a special Place this. You will be met by the owner and also the chef. She comes directly from the kitchen with the apron on. The menys are well used. It's quite coozy inside. All food is very good, was the info we got and then nothing more. We did choose this: - As starter Kudu carpaccio, that was... More

The restaurant has a limited menu for lunch. But nice options. I had salmon trout with sides of potatoes, veggies. It was excellent. My wife had the chicken pie with the same sides. Also good. We also had the fried onion with sweet chili - quite a taste sensation. Service was good, friendly, helpful and attentive.

We actually went for a Sundowner, as the place is situated nicely in the last rays of afternoon sun in Tulbagh. We decided to stay for supper after the waitress informed us that there were still tables open. (You might want to reserve a table.) The restaurant itself is small and cosy, set in a historical building in a quiet... More

We were referred to the restaurant by the people we were staying with. The menu was fine, the restaurant empty. More than anything else it felt like the owner was not really interested in us and extremely irritated that we were only ordering 1 meal to eat there (as we were not starving) despite ordering another 2 meals to take... Description
The oldest house in Church Street , Tulbagh – Readers.
Offering simple, outstanding local and global cuisine, has been able to maintain a standard of excellence that has created a notable reputation with both locals and tourists.
The cuisine varies on a daily basis depending on the availability of fresh produce. This provides Carol Collins – Silwood trained Cordon Bleu Chef -a certain challenge in ensuring the creation of dishes using imagination, flair and superb presentation. Certain dishes have become trademarks at Readers but the focus remains on variety, fusion of flavours and combination of unusual ingredients.
