The food was very fine, the price sweet and the wine good and cheap as well. After the dinner, the chef came and offer us to drink red wine ( was it laredo ?? ) or white with a SA group. We spend a wonderful evening in a so nice and sweet place. We recommand it !!!!!!

Set in the heart of old Tulbagh, Reader's Restaurant provides great food, great service and great atmosphere for guests who appreciate the finer things in life. The food is well prepared and beautifully presented in this historical setting where cats are clearly close to the hostess' heart, ornaments, pictures abound.

Worst service ever experienced at any restaurant both here and abroad. With only one staff member to do all the tasks it took us 17 minutes just to get seated, this in a near empty establishment. After a further lengthy wait we requested to speak to management whereupon we were informed that the owner Carol was not expected to be... More

Readers restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Sherry on arrival, then lead to a lovely cosy table. The owner's menu and food was superb. The cat decor around the restaurant was a lovely treat. Great service all night long.

In addition it was a wonderful, comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. Generous portions, freshly cooked. House wine above average. Simple menu which just worked. Outstanding in its class. Highly recommended.

Maureen and I had delicately smoked trout which was absolutely superb. Carol is an accomplished chef, her food is always beautifully presented and her attention to detail in decor and service excellent. Her waitress Caroline was a joy with a radiant smile and lovely sense of humour...what a lovely evening AGAIN.

The food is very good. The staff is very nice. Great place and good complimentary. Sprinbok as realy spectacular and the house made cooking pudding for dessert exquisite. If you visit Tulbagh eat in Readers. Very good for money !

Bright smiles and friendly staff greet you here in Tulbagh. In amongst this quirky store we found delicious cauliflower soup, delectable pork chops for my better half(with a big doggy bag for me later) and scrumptious lamb fyllo pastry parcels for me. We will definitely return.

The oldest house in Church Street , Tulbagh – Readers.
Offering simple, outstanding local and global cuisine, has been able to maintain a standard of excellence that has created a notable reputation with both locals and tourists.
The cuisine varies on a daily basis depending on the availability of fresh produce. This provides Carol Collins – Silwood trained Cordon Bleu Chef -a certain challenge in ensuring the creation of dishes using imagination, flair and superb presentation. Certain dishes have become trademarks at Readers but the focus remains on variety, fusion of flavours and combination of unusual ingredients.
