We've missed The Alford! The food was fantastic, loved the beetroot salad starter. My steak was beautifully cooked, & yummy sides. The service was very good & the best part was the return of Darren! So glad our "local" is back.

I am so pleased to say that you can still be lucky enough to happen upon a little gem of a pub when you least expect it. There are so many pubs up & down the country that are run down physically and mentally it's a crying shame. I can't tell you how happy we were (hubby, kiddies & me)... More

Had an excellent meal for the re-opening of the Alford Arms. New exciting dishes on the menu and as always very friendly staff. So glad to be back!

Having used that sat-nav, or not - if you prefer wandering forlornly up and down muddy country lanes, you will find yourself at a proper, independent gastro-pub. The food is generally very good, the service is always at least OK+. The place itself is quaint and genuine and you will probably find yourself wishing you had a pub like this... More

Went to the pre-opening of our favourite pub/restaurant which has been closed for 6 months due to a fire. Has been sorely missed so was overjoyed to finally see it open again. Gladly it has not dramatically changed internally just given a brighter, fresher face-lift. Also lovely to see old members of staff back + several new very well trained... More

I dined at the Alford Arms on Sunday 21st August (which was the re-opening weekend of the pub/ restaurant) with my family. The evening was fantastic from start to finish. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful. The food was also absolutely superb! We had 3 courses and each one reached above and beyond our expectations. 10/10! So glad... More

Outstanding food and service. The pigeon and pig cheek starters were sublime. The rabbit and pork belly mains were lovely. Topped off with yummy malt loaf and pineapple fritters with rum and raisin ice cream. Best food and value for money for miles around. Great that The Alford Arms is finally back!

Situated down a lane in the heart of the Ashridge Forest, The Alford Arms is a gastronomic delight whether for al-fresco dining in the Summer or in front of a snug fire in mid-Winter. Very popular with those in the know, it is worth calling and booking first (and getting directions) as it won't disappoint. Certainly more restaurant than pub... More

Description
A warm and welcoming country dining pub with open fire and muddy boots and dog friendly. People often describe the Alford as a gastro-pub, but we're not really comfortable with that tag. The term sounds too restauranty and cheffy. We've always wanted the Alford to be a great pub, where you just happen to be able to get great food. So tables in the dining room are available to book, but there's also the bar for drinkers with tables available on a first come, first served basis. The seasonal menu and daily specials balance originality with more traditional fare and we are firm believers in using local produce wherever possible. Hanging baskets and window boxes adorn the terrace and provide an alfresco dining area. Alongside is the village green and historic Ashridge Estate is right on our doorstep. Ramblers, dog walkers, bluebell admirers, mushroom foragers and cyclists regularly emerge from the surrounding countryside ready to combine their activity with a refreshing stop at the Alford Arms.
