Have visited The Alford Arms several times and will keep going back. We are always greeted warmly and the dining experience is wonderful. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and answered our queries readily. Food excellent and very well presented and the dining room itself is very comfortable. An ideal location for visiting nearby Dockey Wood at bluebell time.

"Lost" in the deep Chilterns, The Alford Arms is an iconic destination real gastro pub and always heavily booked. The interior is cosy, clean and rustic farm house style with open fires and a propper pub bar. There is a dining area to the rear which is attractive and there is a pleasant sunny dining garden, weather permitting. The menu... More

We spotted this pub late last year after visiting the Frithsden Vineyard, and finally got around to going for lunch on Saturday. The pub and dining room were attractively decorated and the former had a lovely open fire - quite wished we were sitting there as I was initially so cold in the dining room that I had to put... The Alford Arms has been one of my top favourites for over 15-years. Not been for a while as been living in Australia and their unfortunate fire, subsequent renovations. The earliest booking we could get for today was 6:15pm. The Alford Arms looks as inviting as ever but the food, roast beef and accompaniments very disappointing and seemed microwaved. The... More

The best Sunday roast we've had anywhere in a long time! Fabulous roast potatoes, nice veg, the beef melted in your mouth and the gravy?...well let's just say if it wasn't such a nice place, we'd have licked the plates clean! The staff were lovely and we will definitely be returning.

This is the type of place you recommend to the fussiest, most critical, most demanding for they will all be happy at this place. The variety is awesome - so many healthy & scrumptious options impresses. Fresh, fresh, fresh food. Will visit again.

New Year's Eve family walk. Bracing day, cold and bright. Kids and grandkids. 6 of us. We stopped here for lunch. The staff were so helpful. We luckily arrived as a pub table cleared. The waitress saw we were waiting with the kids and smartly gestured for us to sit down. We were asked to order a drink and set... More

A Wednesday in winter and our first visit to this pub - restaurant. The place was full and we had difficulty parking at 1pm. Booking a table appeared to be essential. We were placed under a loud speaker playing pop music. The contented diners were all so engrossed that this was an unnecessary addition and to us an irritation. We... More

Lovely location, great staff, menu, beer and wine. Best steak and chips anywhere and you can take the dog! Need to book for the dinning room or take a chance getting seated in the bar. Lots of outside seating when it's warm. Can't recommend it enough.

A warm and welcoming country dining pub with open fire and muddy boots and dog friendly. People often describe the Alford as a gastro-pub, but we're not really comfortable with that tag. The term sounds too restauranty and cheffy. We've always wanted the Alford to be a great pub, where you just happen to be able to get great food. So tables in the dining room are available to book, but there's also the bar for drinkers with tables available on a first come, first served basis. The seasonal menu and daily specials balance originality with more traditional fare and we are firm believers in using local produce wherever possible. Hanging baskets and window boxes adorn the terrace and provide an alfresco dining area. Alongside is the village green and historic Ashridge Estate is right on our doorstep. Ramblers, dog walkers, bluebell admirers, mushroom foragers and cyclists regularly emerge from the surrounding countryside ready to combine their activity with a refreshing stop at the Alford Arms.
