We had a really lovely evening. The food was excellent. The staff are really friendly and attentive. Although it has been completely refurbished it felt really similar and welcoming as before the fire. Thank you

Located out in the sticks this has to be one of the finest food venues around the area. Portion sizes are large for starters so beware if you want to have a dessert after mains!! Would imagine the gardens are a beautiful place to sit in the Summer and eat n' drink. Shame we only found this late in our... More

We just happened to by out walking the dog and passed the Alford Arms which looked really busy but it was a Sunday afternoon. As a table was free outside we chose to have a pint but this led to reading the extensive menu. We took a risk ( as it was looking very busy) and ordered and was pleasantly... More

Lovely meal with friends this weekend at this recently reopened GastroPub. Good to see this Stalwart back up and running, and as busy as it ever was - although that can be a bit of a pain too (parking / negotiating your way to the table etc). My pigeon was lovely, but my rabbit was wonderful - I'm not allowed... More

Sat outside for a midweek lunch with the family in glorious sunshine. Just like old times, the formula is great, the food flavoursome, the staff friendly. A treat not to be rushed and it wasn't. Great to have you back and with on-line booking, Bliss..........

We are old hands at the Alford but were a bit disappointed with our lunch today. Although the restaurant was not full the wait time for food was excessive and portions smaller than we remembered. The pressure was obviously on the kitchen as my wife's starter arrived with a key missing. This was sorted immediately and profuse apologies given. Food... More

Perfect Saturday night, Beautiful food, Bubble and Squeak is a must! Wife said the Rabbit was the best main course she's ever had, can't wait to come back, service was spot on, lovely waitresses, booking is essential as it gets booked up very quickly, would love to know where they get their bacon from.

We walked here from Berkhamsted station through the golf club. We arrived at 1.15 asking if there would be a table available for 2.15 as we wanted to pop round the corner first and have some wine at Frithsden Vineyard. Friendly staff told us that the restaurant was fully booked inside - indeed it was heaving - but they would... More

Description
A warm and welcoming country dining pub with open fire and muddy boots and dog friendly. People often describe the Alford as a gastro-pub, but we're not really comfortable with that tag. The term sounds too restauranty and cheffy. We've always wanted the Alford to be a great pub, where you just happen to be able to get great food. So tables in the dining room are available to book, but there's also the bar for drinkers with tables available on a first come, first served basis. The seasonal menu and daily specials balance originality with more traditional fare and we are firm believers in using local produce wherever possible. Hanging baskets and window boxes adorn the terrace and provide an alfresco dining area. Alongside is the village green and historic Ashridge Estate is right on our doorstep. Ramblers, dog walkers, bluebell admirers, mushroom foragers and cyclists regularly emerge from the surrounding countryside ready to combine their activity with a refreshing stop at the Alford Arms.
