Recommended by a friend, we had visited The Boat previously and had a wondered roast dinner. This time, however, we booked a little later (6.00pm) to find that we were too late for a roast dinner (finishes at 6.00pm), and although a member of staff did check with the chef, we were told there was no roast dinners left!! We then looked at the limited menu again and selected food we didn’t particularly want but as it was our wedding anniversary we didn’t want to make the evening a disaster. The food was average and small portions. Dessert was disappointing .. a creme brûlée (at £6.00) with mango freshly out of a tin!! The staff were lovely though. It will be a while before we venture back there.

Ate here on Saturday night , we had 3 fish and chips plus a burger , £75 !! That was without drinks , food was ok , nothing special. Can’t believe the price , I get it’s a lovely location by the canal but it is pub food !!

We went with our enchanting grandson Charlie (seven months), his parents and our Labrador. We were all made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The food was great too - we all had different mains. The roast beef in particular was excellent - lots of perfectly cooked lean meat plus al dente vegetables. A small slip up with the delivery of the meals was quickly and apologetically corrected. All this plus an excellent canal side location on a day of glorious sunshine. What more could you ask for? Thanks to all the friendly and cheerful staff.

Place is well located and dog friendly, bartender was nice and gin selection slaws interesting. However we placed our order and waited a hour only to be told they made a mistake and we would have had to wait 5 more minutes. No acknowledgement and no apology. To add insult to injury, a waiter approaches us and leaves a sign on the table stating we will have to clear it by 4.15 for football crowd to which my mother in law replies that we have been waiting for our food for a hour and will leave once we eat our meals. Once again, no apology or acknowledgment. About a hour and 15 minutes later, after witnessing larger tables being served and cleared before us, I am mortified in front of my inlaws. I approached the counter and requested a refund which they processed and left feeling absolutely and unjustifiably disrespected. I am sure the food was nice, shame we never saw it.

The only thing saving this place is its location. I'm happy to pay ÂŁ18 for a burger and chips but not when a tiny dry burger and a handful of chips arrive slung on a plate 40 minutes after ordering. Some staff fine, some staff like zombies..and everything very slow. So disappointed as it's such a nice pub in a gorgeous location. Will absolutely not be back.

On arrival i was met by Caitlin & Sara, both are always so welcoming and accommodating. I ordered Black pudding croquettes they just melted in the mouth. I also ordered Lamb kofta which was also cooked perfectly and the Tzatziki was beautiful, the diced cucumber running through the tzatziki was the best part. Some of the wood work around the walls is chipped and may need some touch up but all round perfect lunch.

The food was horrible and the staff wasn't alarmed at all that I didn't recognise what I'd ordered or to take back a full plate. (and the only thing I could eat on my plate was the ridiculously small portion of meat) The online menu is criptic, no descriptions anywhere, so didn't manage to even order a drink I liked. They don't even sell side portions of chips, so couldn't even leave with a full belly.

Visited many times for lunch. Portion sizes were very small, cesaer salad tiny, my burger looked very sad and lonely on the plate, with a few well cooked chips. maybe some coleslaw would have been nice. Food and service was nice but consider charging a bit more.

I called in for lunch before an appointment in the town. I arrived about 12:50, so I assumed they would be serving. I ordered a turkey and cranberry toastie (with chips) and a half pint of beer. I left at 13:25 - no sign of the food. A group of three sitting in the window who were well settled when I arrived were pressing to find out where their food was.

Our experience was extremely disappointing. To begin with, there was an error in the billing for one of our meals and drinks. Furthermore, we were dismayed to overhear Kelly, a member of the staff, engaging in gossip about our table. Additionally, when I inquired about the vegan status of the Tofu sandwich, Mitch responded in a condescending and sarcastic manner, stating, "Obviously, PB stands for plant-based, so yes, it's vegan." The demeanour of both Kelly and Mitch was consistently rude. I would strongly advise against visiting this establishment.

Living locally, we have been visiting The Boat for years & it isn’t improving. If it weren’t for it’s lovely location on the canal, people would have stopped coming years ago. We ordered a selection of small plates & 50% were not available, including the chicken wings & crab. Leaving is with olives, bread & chips! There is a butcher 15 steps away; a decent chef should go & purchase some chicken wings, marinade them and make them available again! Determined to make the best of a gorgeous day, we stayed for a while and enjoyed our beer & wine. Asked for a coffee.....machine broke at the weekend. Surely a simple, cheap filter machine could be kept for this scenario? The poor staff do their best and are friendly and accommodating, but I feel for them having to apologise for lack of food choices and broken machinery. This is a brewery/management problem that should be addressed. Unfortunately, they simply don’t care as they know people will still keep coming, due to the perfect location. Such a shame.

Thank you for your review. Sadly on a busy bank holiday we were subject to many items being undelivered by suppliers which led to many things being out of stock. We do hope that you give us another try to see what we can really do.

Ordered pub classics fish and chips and sausages. Fish happened to be a bit rotten. Complained to a manager he said no, then he said that he'll show to the cook and disappeared forever. He did not even bother to return.

After booking in advance, we had a table for 1pm, when we arrived, the hostess (who we later discovered was the owner) didn't show us to a table but told us to find and sit at a table already occupied. After we walked around helplessly, we went back and told her someone was already this table eating food. We were then told another table number, eventually sitting down after 15 minutes. (I'm not sure she understood the Covid safe distancing guidelines) We ordered at the bar, the service was ok, but when the main courses arrived, the same hostess came to our table and said you have 20 minutes remaining and we should think about leaving. This is now 1.40pm. We were told it was a 2hr slot, not a 1 hour slot. When we mentioned this, the attitude of the hostess was rude, stressed and unprofessional. For the next 20 minutes, all we could hear from the hostess is that she need to "Kick People Out" and telling staff to "Get rid of those people" Our waiter, Connor was great, he was very calm and dealt with the customers how we would expect, with a courteous and professional manner. The food was not to the same standard, the home made burger was much smaller than usual and the ÂŁ4.50 surcharge for swapping regular potato fries to the sweet potato fries was a joke. It wasn't worth leaving my home for, and i'd rather eat somewhere else. Plenty of places around who aren't stressed and careless.

Good Evening, I am so sorry to hear of your most recent experience. It is always our intention to exceed ourt guests expectation, bothw ith the food that we serve and the service that we provide, and i sincerely apologise on this occasion we clearly have failed to do so. I would liek to assure you, the service and food as you describe is not up to our usual high standard and your comments have been fed back to the management team here at The Boat to ensure measures are now in place to prevent any future incidents of this nature. Your feedback is vital to our success, so thank you for taking the time to bring this to my attention. Warm Regards, Boat Team

Popped in for a couple of beers and some nibbles. Staff polite and welcoming and a nice environment on the canal. However, this place is expensive and I don’t recall it being this pricey before COVID. A glass of Prosecco £10. We ordered the triple cut chips and honestly there was less than a handful in a very small bowl at £5. A rip off and they’re not even that good!!! A small pitta bread and maybe two spoons full of hummus 🤔. So nice drinks an environment but watch what you are ordering from the bar snacks. We used to pop into The Boat fairly often but now I feel taken for granted. Such a shame it has treat its customer this way. It’s a bowl chips they should be plentiful at that price.
