We were out for a socially distanced walk and stopped to have lunch at this canal side pub. On arrival we checked that we were ok to be served outside as one of us in in tier 2 and we had to comply with the...law and can't share a table inside. We were told that we should order our lunch using the app but we kept being directed to a a pub in High Wycombe! In the end we telephoned to place an order but were told someone would come out and take it. The guy who came out politely told us that they were too busy to serve outside today but there was a lot of tables inside ( bit contradictory really!} We reiterated that we couldn't - so we just left without even placing an order!More

My second visit here and it is coping well with lockdown, plenty of space and a pleasant atmosphere outside. My two companions chose the cheese sandwich with chips. One of them noted that there was considerably less cheese than last time, the other would have...preferred the cheese uncooked - it was effectively a toastie. As the fish and chips was over £14, I had the rump steak - which was only a bit more. The peppercorn sauce was good, as were the triple cooked chips, but when I asked about the baked mushrooms apparently there weren't any. A bit lame as this had swayed my choice of dishes. Otherwise we would have been perfectly happy. Evidently the waitress did not know in advance that the mushrooms were off, or hopefully I would have been told!More

We visited our local sunny riverside pub again today. What a treat. The roast beef is excellent and always comes with lashings of gravy. The Covid-19 procedures in place seem to be working really well. The hostess on the door seats you at a cleaned...table and makes you feel very welcome when explaining how to order. Sadly I have work tomorrow so can’t have one of those tasty gins they make but next time. Thanks again Boat staff for making us feel safe and having the BEST roast beef ever!!!!!!More

Where do i start. first let's start with the one good thing peroni beer is wonderful best in town. Now the bad points staff not wearing PPE i know its not the law but must pubs in berkhamsted make there staff wear them. Outside tables...were not cleared in many instances, but worst of all it was obvious that they had not been cleaned at all. You’d think that in these times of the Covid virus that pubs would do their utmost to keep things clean and wipe down surfaces regularly. It was clear that cleanliness is not a priority at this establishment. Disgraceful! I understand COVID19 is a strain for everyone, however this is basic hygiene not being followed let alone post lockdown!.. they are going to need to pull their finger out ... at the moment this place is a perfect covid hotspot groundMore

We booked a table on for 6 people and were greeted with a moody and rude member of staff who clearly didn’t want to make us feel welcome. He told us our table bar stools by the window, which was very cramped and not what...we had booked. We asked to move and got seated to a proper table. Another waiter brought out a extremely restricted menu with 5 main courses on and two of those (burger and steak) they didn’t have in. I totally understand in the current scenario we are in that some produce is harder to get but it would have been helpful to have known when we arrived rather than once we had all ordered drinks & stared at the menu for 20 mins. We ended up ordering chips and left for another pub around the corner. It was a shame as we had previously enjoyed our visits to The Boat.More

We turned up here after a hard day's boating in the rain hoping for a bit to eat to revive our spirits and maybe a couple of beers. We weren't able to get a table indoors but there were plenty outside, no problem we thought...... but although the rain had stopped some hour or so previously every single chair had a puddle of water on the seat, how difficult would it have been for a member of staff to run around and give them a wipe with a towel. We ended up perching on a damp wooden bench which was rather uncomfortable. The food was served quickly and was up to scratch but given our damp behinds we decided to head elsewhere for a dry drink.More

We booked a table for 7pm and arrived to a very warm welcome. Sat down as it is table service inside and instantly was asked what drinks we wanted, didn't take long at all and we were already settled 5 minutes after arriving. We decided...to take advantage of the 'eat out to help out' scheme and both got a steak. Definitely one of the best I've had in a while and the temperatures were perfect (medium and medium rare). The customer service was amazing and I couldn't fault anything, we felt very safe with the social distancing rules in place and the staff were extremely friendly. Would definitely recommend!More
