What great service at this lovely on trend restaurant. Good food and house wine. A very friendly and helpful staff at this all age eatery. We had a Sunday roast which was excellent and the veggies which often let down a roast, were lovely. Very helpful gluten free options on the menu.

There are some fine eateries in Berkhamsted so when going out to eat expectations are high, sadly for us on our first visit here the Highwayman disappointed us. We were a group of 6 with a one year old baby going out on a Sunday lunchtime to celebrate my daughter,'s birthday. In fairness I phoned the restaurant first to see... More

I am sorry that it appears we have not lived upto to our usual high standards on this occasion. It is very disappointing to hear that you did not feel either the food nor the service lived upto expectations, I can assure you that this is not how we usually operate. We have eaten here several times previously and were anxious its standards might have slipped following the refurbishment. we need not have worried - the atmosphere was great and there was an improved selection of beer. The food was simply delicious, the fish special (hake with mussels in saffron sauce) was outstanding. We will certainly return and will recommend it... More

Saturday late afternoon and you're not in the mood for a restaurant nor a pub, then head out to the Highway men on the High Street in Berkhamtead. You would be pleasantly surprised. As soon as you walk in, staff clock you and greet you warmly, not just one but literally all. The attention was lovely and comforting. They make... More

Fillet steak medium rare, perfect in every way. Normally disappointed with steaks, but the highwayman was recommended by a friend and it didn't disappoint. Ate in the bar relaxed atmosphere, with drinks. Staff attentive and friendly. Good job all round.

Opted for here with my husband this morning. Pretty quiet so we had to sit in the bar area, which is nicely decorated. Ordered the full English at £7.50. We were both very impressed, the flavours were stunning for a breakfast, best we've had in a while! Service was good, coffee was good. Would definitely go again when in the... More

Sounds like the team really helped to get your day off to a good start! We do normally tend to serve breakfasts in the bar, the more relaxed feel seems to be preferred by most, however if would would prefer a table in the restaurant on your next visit, please just let us know and that will be absolutely fine. A lot of time has been put into ensuring that a large majority of our menu either is, or can be, Gluten Free and so it is wonderful to hear that people feel that the range of choices is good. I am glad that we could help to enhance your birthday. More

On arrival you will be greeted by our friendly, knowledgeable team and the lively ambience is complemented by a menu inspired by the simple, hearty dishes of M. Blanc's childhood.
