Lovely evening with great attentive staff and great food. After some ignorant so and so left the back door open which let the cold air in, the manager gave us a free bottle of wine. He didn't have to do it, wasn't his or his staffs fault just a really nice touch.

This was our first visit and came across the Highwayman almost by accident, we had every intention of going to a high street restaurant. We both enjoyed the Sunday lunch (and was asked if we wanted some extra gravey) almost went for a pudding if only the trousers could have expanded! The service was prompt and staff friendly and when... More

Visiting here for our 10th wedding anniversary was a really excellent experience. Food and service could not be faulted and the complimentary glass of bubbly was a lovely touch. We were going out later so we ate from the set menu which was excellent value. Terrific.

Had lunch here today with a mate, and loved the relaxed atmosphere of the bar area. Fantastic service and great selection of beers, the burger was amazing too.

There were 7 of us for Sunday lunch. Even though the restaurant was full we had excellent service and the food was fabulous. We will be back .

We visited The Highwayman, Berkhamstead, for a family lunch, (8 in total, all adults), we had pre ordered as requested and arrived on time. Table was available within 5 minutes, after sitting for maybe 5 minutes the waiter came for our order!!!!! Sorry all ordered but he did take our wine order. We waited a long time for food to... Good afternoon Frank. It's a shame to read that you didn't enjoy your visit. I can assure you, had we known at the time that the food wasn't up to standard we would have done our best to rectify the issue. We encourage our waiters to "check back" on all of our guests to ensure everybody leaves happy & full.... More

If he was still around, Dick Turpin, the local highwayman would have definitely been a regular at this place. The service and staff are excellent, friendly, knowledgeable without being pushy. The menu is always interesting with great food, portion sizes are just right, not too big or too small. The prices are very keen - no highway robbery.

The premises are a lot bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside. Bar area and seating at the front leads downstairs to a large restaurant area. Very nice ambiance throughout the establishment. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The Menu had a good selection, with some interesting choices. If on a budget you could choose a reasonable... The meal was average, we would have got a better meal at a carvery for half the price. The table service and staff were very nice and good at their jobs but the service we got from the kitchen was painfully slow. We still had a good time but I will not be going back.

Thank Gary T

Located in an old Georgian building this brasserie boasts a wonderful interior with several levels providing different dining environments overlooking an open, mezzanine kitchen. On arrival you will be greeted by our friendly, knowledgeable team and the lively ambience is complemented by a menu inspired by the simple, hearty dishes of M. Blanc's childhood.

Alongside an appetising a la carte menu and carefully selected wine list we offer an excellent value set menu and on Sundays we serve a classic roast with all the trimmings. Younger diners can choose from a special children's menu or order a half sized portion of many of the a la carte dishes on offer. For summer dining our secluded terrace is the ideal escape.
