We visited this place twice this month , service excellent both times , good wines too , their burger is very juicy and nice and so is their stake . The only critique I have is the starter menus is very limited

My wife and I decided to try out the "early bird" set menu, which meant that we had to order by 6:30pm. For a Friday night, the restaurant section was not crowded at all, and the seating area was open and airy, so a great start. For the Set Menu, there was a reasonable choice between 4 main courses and... More

Hello Brian, It seems as if we ticked all of the right boxes on your visit with the exception of the wine & music. Our wine list, along with our music, is there to cater for all of our guests tastes & depending on the day of the week, will generally affect the genre of music. We have it to... More

Table for 4 booked for lunch. We all opted for the "Sunday Lunch"menu. The pork chop looked excellent as did the trout fillet, however, the roast beef and vegetables were appaling. The beef was two very thin slices, supposedly served pink but were in fact over done. In fact the whole meal looked like it had been kept under a... More

Hi there Colin, I'm sorry to read that your roast beef was over cooked & your veg was unappealing. We definitely prepare our veg fresh every Sunday so I can only apologise that you received below par food. I will address the points you have raised with my team as we could have rectified the issue at the time. Apologies... More

My wife and I visited for a supper between Christmas and New Year. Food and service both excellent. Had to ask to be moved to a different table (which was happily accommodated even though they were very busy) due to proximity to noisy/smelly service station for waiting staff. Would definitely return.

The Highwayman has a modest frontage to the High Street and opens out like the Tardis inside. Staff are welcoming and there is a good, laid back atmosphere in the spacious dining area. I cannot fault the food. Mediterranean fish soup followed by Moules Mariniere, Gorgeous and the mussels were the best I have had for some time. All served... More

We had booked a table with friends for Christmas Eve evening. I had the mulled wine to start. I thought it was over priced for the small glass I received. I had the beetroot salad to start which was lovely. Good flavours and not too much on the plate. For mains I had the beef which was gorgeous. Lovely meat... More

Good menu with separate gluten free one. Friendly staff, relaxed feel, just a really good bistro. Good for both lunch and dinner.

Attended meal with friends. We had the 'private room ' off the main bar ( without the door.) Friday evening with the run up to Christmas it was of course very busy. While the staff were rushing around, they were incredibly efficient and accommodating. Well done ! Not easy with 18 people or do to manage. Food was good. Had... More

Hi Robert, thanks for taking the time to leave a review, but on this occasion I'm afraid you may have us mistaken for someone else as the description of our layout and menu don't quite match. Hopefully you can join us at some point in the future however. More

We booked 3 weeks in advance and were told only 6.30pm was available. During the whole time we were in the restaurant there were was plenty of capacity and spare tables - I don't know why we were forced into such an early time slot. Our starter of celeriac avocado and watercress was spoilt by an extremely vinegary dressing which... More

Hello Pat. Thank you for your review & comments. It seems that whilst we have, in your eyes improved on some aspects, we could have done better on others. I'm sure you can understand that at this time of year, on a Saturday night, the majority of our guests want to book tables at peak time, between 7-8:15pm. Although we... More

Lovely evening with great attentive staff and great food. After some ignorant so and so left the back door open which let the cold air in, the manager gave us a free bottle of wine. He didn't have to do it, wasn't his or his staffs fault just a really nice touch.

Description
Located in an old Georgian building this brasserie boasts a wonderful interior with several levels providing different dining environments overlooking an open, mezzanine kitchen. On arrival you will be greeted by our friendly, knowledgeable team and the lively ambience is complemented by a menu inspired by the simple, hearty dishes of M. Blanc's childhood.

Alongside an appetising a la carte menu and carefully selected wine list we offer an excellent value set menu and on Sundays we serve a classic roast with all the trimmings. Younger diners can choose from a special children's menu or order a half sized portion of many of the a la carte dishes on offer. For summer dining our secluded terrace is the ideal escape.
