Paid a surprise visit to a friend and we dined here. Absolutely fabulous! We were so busy catching up that we left our dinner choices up to the waitress, including wine matches - she did a fabulous job, we loved it all. The courtyard area was perfect too - lovely!

We would have loved to order mains but after 2 hours of sitting waiting for both dishes the kitchen was closed. They must have been very understaffed because every single time we wanted a wine we had to go find someone who then would usually ignore us and come back to the table a few minutes later. The lady at... More

I had their ricotta gnocchi and a glass of Nebbiolo the first time and fell in Love with their food and cosy atmosphere. Came back again with my friends, always good.

This is my favourite restaurant in Melbourne for a casual no fuss meal, the food is always good (although they could do with a change of menu about now) the service can sometimes be a touch slow but its offset by charming and knowledgable staff. However what makes this place so special is the ability to shoot into the Prince... More

Had a terrific lunch here, had wonderful food, many flavors I've not experienced before. Added to that the great wine selection, it made for a great afternoon. Must also point out the service/ wait staff were fantastic, they all new their stuff, gave us some great recommendations, and generally made the whole experience absolutely enjoyable

Called in for birthday drinks with a friend. Not only do they have an extensive range of wines, many by the glass (or some of the more expensive ones they offer a tasting) but a wide selection of spirits too. I finally found Four Pillars Shiraz gin as well as their amazing Christmas gin. Expect what's left in the bottle... More

Four of us arrived without a reservation for dinner. We were told it would be 40 minutes before we could get a table inside. We could have had a drink outside but it was a cold night so we went elsewhere for a drink and the waitress rang us when a table had become available. Great service right from the... More

Our party of six adults enjoyed a great evening meal when we recently visited Melbourne. Even though the restaurant was full and we had not booked, the host squeezed us into the small outdoor area without any fuss. Having access to the adjacent wine bar allowed us to choose a selection of wines of our choice and price to drink... More

Amazing food, beautiful Italian wine, great atmosphere on a cold Saturday night - we almost believed we were back in Italy.

Amazing selection of wines, lovely food and service never fails to impress. Have come here for dinner which is great but mostly just a perfect place to relax in South Melbourne. Prince Wine Store next door boasts a fantastic selection of wines from France.

Staying in South Melbourne

Neighborhood Profile
South Melbourne
South Melbourne hosts the city’s oldest continuous market, founded in 1867. Rows of neatly arranged fruit, vegetables and flowers splash yellows, greens and reds along the entire perimeter, where the whole neighborhood gathers for Saturday feasts. Inside the hall, shoppers hover over the mouth-watering displays of delicatessens and specialty food shops. Further in, a bazaar full of giftware, clothing, and kitchen utensils completes the scene. Take a break to walk the wide and shady streets and stroll along the Victorian-era heritage terrace houses. But return to the market in time for some paella, simmering in three large frypans on the footpath and served straight onto your plate.
