The place located inside the Kremlin which is very convenient for the visitors. It's advisable to make reservation in advance especially during touristic seasons otherwise the waiting time might be considerable, up to an hour. The food is fine to my taste, the portions are moderate. The service is at the average level for a Russian province which usually requires some patience from foreigners.

It is the Best of Rostov. Nice place in the kremlin. Unfortunately, staff is not kind. There is english menu but our waiter don't understand english. He Just signs on the menu. But he uses same menu more than once for different guests. Then he bring wrong dish, he became nervous. Food was not bad

As a group, we ordered on arrival at the Kremlin. After our tour we handed over our tickets and food and drinks arrived pronto.
Excellent Russian cuisine.
Beautiful large room, good service, friendly staff. Was quite popular with the locals.
Would definitely visit again. Reasonably priced.

The food is quite possibly excellent, but the attitude of the staff is awful.
We stayed in the kremlin, -where the restaurant is also located, for 2 nights in early November 2017 and tried to visit the restaurant on two occasions for dinner - November 3rd and 4th.
On November 3rd the restaurant was closed, because it was rented for an event. This is perfectly acceptable of course, but why not put an advance notice on the door?
On November 4th we arrived at the restaurant shortly before 20:00 to have dinner. After having waited unsuccessfully for a couple of minutes to be seated we approached a waiter, who was busy chatting at the bar. She asked if we wanted to have dinner and when we said 'yes', she informed us that the kitchen was closed and walked away. This despite the fact that the restaurant works until 21:00 according to the sign on their entrance door.
We understand that it may be difficult to attract qualified staff off season for a restaurant in a small town, but at the very least you can teach them to show respect to the (potential) customers.
I don't like to write bad reviews, but unfortunately in this case there is no way of avoiding it. I am particularly disappointed since the menu was interesting and other visitors are generally happy about the food served at the restaurant.
