According to TripAdvisor this is the best restaurant out of 120. I can't imagine what the worst is like! There were many items off the menu because it was a Monday. The tomato and bacalao was OK but nothing special and the fried mixed fish...was mediocre at best. I won't be back.More
Our second visit and we left the choosing to them. Everything was so fresh and the tastes were amazing. And washed down with a bottle of house white was an absolute bargain. Is a definite must on any visit to Aguilas.
This restaurant is fantastic. My friend who lives in the town recommended this place.
Well i can say only great things about Poli.
First: My friend took me to the fish auction where he showed me the owner, I saw how he decide which fish...he would like to buy. That is why there is no menu. They serve what they bought. Its 100% sure that your fish is extremely fresh and has a good quality.
Second: The restaurant itself is quite small (like 10 tables) but decorated nicely. Of course it is better to book it in advance. We went there to celebrate my wife's birthday, we booked 2 days prior.
Third: The food. I dont consider myself as a fish eater and can compare with only a few restaurants, but first time in my life i had the felling that i should consider to eat more often these stuff (not only fish). All of them were very delicious.Prawns, squids, little fishes (only wintertime you can eat them).
Fourth: Price. I think what you can eat here and how much does it cost is fine. I saw some comments that this is maybe a little high, but as (unfortunately) i cant come every day it is totally acceptable.
Fifth: All the guys there were really kind and helpful. They make our night more special. Thanks for that.
So all of the above makes for me Poli the number one restaurant in Aguilas.More
A word first to explain the title. It's old fashioned and looks a little bit like an 80s theme park ride with a nautical feel. Reminiscent of a Disney theme park ride, it's charming though in a retro way.
The menu is simple: seafood and...done simply fantastically. We selected three starters to share and then monkfish to follow. Don't be fooled, the main prices are high because of the volume on offer. Share mains between two or more and you'll not leave hungry.
Mussels first were enormously plump, and served with lemon wedges to add to taste. Juicy, perfectly tender and scrupulously clean. Absolutely fantastic, nothing else needed. Then some tiny urchins flash fried with garlic. Would never have chosen them but there were recommended and were very tasty. The signature, white fish, flour fried atop a tomato and roasted pepper coulis was excellent and worth coming just for that alone.
Then rape or monkfish, a full 400g at least served two ways. Tempura style and sliced into small fillets and pan fried in garlic oil - fantastic.
Would have liked some vegetables but forgave due to the quality and freshness of the fish which was brought to the table before cooking for inspection.
Recommended for sure.More
Restaurant was fully booked when we arrived, however the waiters could not have been more helpful, said if we did not mind being in and out in 1 and half hours we could eat. Fabulous fish , very friendly, we did struggle with our limited...Spanish, but waiters were very patient. InexpensiveMore
excellent evening with delicious fish, presented by a happy landlord in his small but busy establishment.
I would suggest that you book if you are wanting to dine here, as the word has got around and its very busy.
an intimate restaurant, i will return.
We had a parillada of grilled fish all fresh and grilled to perfection. This is a small restaurant that only serves fish, and lovely fresh salads.Iwould recommend it to anyone. Its out of the way but is well worth seeking out .
