ORLA (owner/manager) couldn't have been more helpful, with accommodation which was perfect and then dinner and drinks at the Currach Irish Pub - they have a very talented chef and we thoroughly enjoyed our scrumptious meals - lamb shoulder and beef cheeks sitting out on...the deck. Husband and I stayed on Great Barrier Island for 9 nights - and spent 8 of those nights enjoying the hospitality at Currach. I occasionally had to work, and Currach has wifi (our accommodation didn't), so after a first excellent night here, we booked the...same table for the remainder of our stay. Booking was essential - most nights the outside tables were fully booked. The setting is gorgeous, there's a choice of sun or shade, the staff are terrific, and the food is fantastic. Non-vegetarian husband had the vegetarian Potato Gnocchi several times, it was that good ! Live music some nights, guests picking up the pub's guitar other nights - it was perfect.More

We had meant to get pizza, but turns out they don't do pizza on Sundays. We ended up getting the burger and the gnocchi (the latter of which was recommended by the server). The burger had a giant beef patty, so it was quite filling....The gnocchi was fantastic and woudn't have been out of place at a fancy restaurant in Wellington or Auckland!More

Irish pubs outside Ireland are ten a penny these days, but are usually so, so ingenuine! Not so with the Currach, with a genuine Irish owner you can be guaranteed mighty craic, a correctly poured Guinness and hearty feeds! We arrived on the island for a break away and saw a poster for a comedy night in what turns out to be the only pub on the island! The island itself is stunning and we knew it was off the grid so we didn't...expect to find this cool little pub!! It felt like a pub in the middle of a village in Ireland. The Irish lady welcomed us and to be honest, we were convinced that she knew us or we knew her, the welcome was so friendly! We got in early for the food and we didn't expect it to be that good, maybe because they get their groceries flown over on the small planes but the Beef Cheek was delicious. We stayed for the comedy night and it was absolutely brilliant. Again, we didn't expect much, we thought it might be some local open mic acts but it was 3 professionals, an Irish guy, Scottish and a kiwi and despite there being an odd aggressive heckler, they dealt with it well and put on a great show. The whole experience was surreal but we had a smashing timeMore

I've been over 6 times and we love it. Always friendly faces and local characters providing great banter. During the summer, the deck is amazing. In a time when travel is limited, just sitting out on the deck, looking over the hills, you feel like...you are in south east Asia. It's beautiful. The food has always been great when we got it before, especially the wood fired pizza but the chef blew us away on our last 2 visits. Many of the excellent reviews of this place are first/only time posters and they are usually made, just after a negative review has been posted. I popped in recently, just to see if the place had improved. Sadly it hadn't. Maybe on a quiet day,...if you are not too fussy about the menu, it's ok.More

We had a really great evening here. The staff were charming and very welcoming. The pizzas were delicious and the hot chips were some of the best I've had here in NZ!! Really recommend this place. Will be visiting again !

Would not go back. Order forgotten. Waited 45 minutes for starter which had not arrived. 2 tables either side of us had finished their meals and we had no food. No apology. Waiter did not bring cutlery, but went to get some, however, with cutlery...went to bar and ignored us. Had to go to kitchen ourselves to get utensils. Food average. Service poor.More
