Though Spain could be called wine country, the area in Catalunya not far from Barcelona could really take the title because of the more than 125 vineyards in the Penedes Valley, Priorat, and Sant Sadurni d'Anoia regions. Having just visited the Llopart vineyards we wanted...to continue with a meal that captured the same essential spirit and flavors of the region. Cal Xim was our choice, and it couldn't have been a better one. With Sr. Xim created us at the door and suggesting things to eat, it was as if we were in his home for a lunch with friends. The food was of superior quality and preparation, and the wine list extensive and perfect.More

We were so lucky that the gentlemen who was taking us on our Penendes wine tour, David de Yzaguirre Melendres (Wine Experience & Emotions), took us to this incredible restaurant in his home town. This was quite simply the highlight of our trip to Spain....Every ingredient in every dish was the freshest possible. We had seasonal dishes that were very local to the region. Wood fire grille inside the restaurant. We ate outside in front on a beautiful day in early October. Thought my wife would never eat Tripe but she did and loved it here at Cal Xim. Had multiple dishes with multiple wine pairings. Every single thing we ate and drank was incredible. Warm and lovely people preparing and serving. Flawless! If the owner of Cal Xim cared about having a Michelin star, then he would have 3. If you are in Barcelona or anywhere else near this place, you should do whatever it takes to get here and have the meal of a lifetime. One of my favorite places on the planet.More

impeccable food from the region. Many local wines of top quality. Knowledge of staff great. Prices amazingly reasonable. Made my top ten list of catalan traditional restaurants.

We were out on a Cava run and got this little place recommended. Nice place, good service and basic but very tasty meal. Not the cheapest of places but worth it for sure. They have a very large wine card!

This restaurant will catch your atention because it has a nice terrace. However, they have a very slow service (more than one hour waiting for the starter). The maitre recomended us some especialies without mention their cost. In the bill we discovered that a simple...bite such as a natural courgette flower tapa (spoon size) costs 7€. Very dissapointed!More

The atmosphere and food were highly recommendable, with excellent local ingredients well and simply prepared. We arrived at a very busy time and had to wait a good while to order, but it was well worth the wait.

We had reserved for 2 but we met 2 friends on the way and the restaurant quickly accommodated the 4 of us in the lovely terrace. The ambiance, the food and the wine very just great. Only downside: service was slow, the place was busier...than usual and we had to wait quite a while to get served. The owner, very congenial, explained the situation and apologized profusely. As it was a weekend and we were not in a hurry we didn't bother too much. I'd guess that getting there early (13h30) would make the situation better (we had reserved for 15h00). The restaurant is in the middle of a wine-producing area and during the week many sommeliers and winemakers make this restaurant their eating spot after visiting colleagues and clients.More

Had the most amazing grilled artichokes. Wonderful customer service, even with my very poor Spanish.

We visited Lavern-subirats as part of a local horse carriage experience and knew that there was a Michelin restaurant in the vicinity. From the onset, the service was horrible. Our local guide helped to ask if there was a table (as we did not have...reservations), the lady was arrogant and unresponsive. As the tables inside were full, we ended up sitting on one of the tables outside. There was five other empty tables outside, but she insisted that the table we sat on was reserved and we needed to move to the adjacent. The food was good and the fire oven was a nice touch; but the service was horrible. There were only two servers and they were very unresponsive. We needed the restaurant to call for a taxi for us and it took 25 mins for the taxi to come. When we chased for it (as we needed to catch a train/, they were very impatient and semi-ignored us. The taxi ended up charging us euro20 for a 4min ride, which his taxi meter shows for only 2.45euro. The driver got into an argument with us, citing that the restaurant had told him to bring us to a much further train station and we needed to compensate him for the distance he thought he should have travelled, even though he only drove for 4mins. Do not visit due to the poor customer serviceMore

There are no words to describe the delicious dishes, the quality of service and the insurmountable hospitality of Santi. One of the best, if not the best gastronomic experience in Catalonia. Just 45 minutes from Barcelona, worth the visit. Make a reservation.

We have been there for a Sunday Lunch. It is in the center of a small-quiet village. We could have sat outside as the weather was very fine, but we preferred inside. The owner, Santi, came to our table and explained all what we asked...for. The language was a mix of English, Spanish, Catalan but communication was perfect. We left the wine selection to Santi since he knows the local Penedes wines definitely better than us. The young waiters were very friendly and helpful in explaining hot to eat their local dishes. We had postres (deserts) and coffee in the outside. It was very beautiful. Here aside form the food, the owner, the staff and other guests were of great quality. Will look for opportunities to come backMore
