Visited while in the area with family members. Prebooked a table for 7.45pm. Lovely quaint traditional pub. Shown to our table and drinks orders taken. Holly came and took our orders - 10/10 for her enthusiasm and friendliness - she was so good. Starters and mains were all delicious and absolutely piping hot. After main course we decided to have a little rest before asking for dessert menu (different waitress - not Holly). We were advised that they were not serving desserts as they had a shortage of chefs for the evening and they had been very busy (and also the kitchen was now closed). It was such a shame as we are pudding fans and had been looking forward to sampling one. I had a smaller main course so that I had room for a pudding. It would have been nice if we had been informed at the start of our meal that there would be no desserts available. Overall a lovely evening but the "no pudding" did dampen our enthusiasm a little and as we aren't local we probably won't get chance for a revisit.

Visited for a Sunday Roast, usually do my own as I've never been impressed by many establishments but was reassured this one was really good. Unfortunately it wasn't overly enjoyable. The lamb was tough, the Carrots and brocoli were beyond Al dente, actually nearly raw still. The roast potatoes, you could really taste the oil they'd used and not in a good way. It wasn't TERRIBLE, but it was ÂŁ16 a head which is not reasonable. I've genuinely had better roasts at a Toby Carvery and that's saying something. I promise I'm genuinely not a fussy person and don't often feel the need to write reviews, but this one did disappoint, in times where you have to think that bit longer about spending money, don't spend it here on the roast

A good solid pub that serves food and has good ambience. I was very grateful to them because it was 1030pm on a Tuesday and they still served me unlike a pub down the road that had already closed. Nice friendly young team. Next time I will come back earlier and try the food.

This is a lovely old pub on Hamble high street . I loved the authentic old oak beams and classy atmosphere to the pub and the whole area is beautiful . The service was good, the pub is quite small so best to book a table , especially near the fire if it’s cold . The food was excellent . We did not eat starters , but my friend had a lovely chicken ham and leek pie and I had spicy meatballs which were really filling . We both had a dessert , mine was apple crumble , which was lovely .would definitely go again . Highly recommended .

Arrived at the bar to a very unwelcome bar person , no greeting , just stared at us , drinks ordered and we sat at a table we found ourselves . After 20-25 minutes no one came over to us to offer a menu . We drank our drinks and left . No acknowledgement on our leaving . Where has the Whyte Hart spirit of previous years gone ?. A terrible shame . Avoid at all cost.

This was the worst roast I think I have ever had out. 2 of the meals come out wrong and when saying about it to staff she replied the chef said it was all correct beef was missing from one plate so they brought a slice out said just been cooked but it look raw. I thought a roast was a joint of meat not frying beef. If you have a combo you get the smallest amount of meat. We asked for more gravy which we waited for about 10 minutes to be told there it is a small milk jug between 6 and they had run out then another staff appeared with more gravy. Veg was hard and drinks over price. Tbh it was only 1 staff member she was really rude other were polite.

Went here once before and had a terrible experience but thought I would try again. I shouldn’t of bothered. There was only 4 of us , we were the only ones eating but still waited about 40 minutes for starters. Then waited at least another 40 minutes for mains. My daughters food came out wrong, I asked the waiter to take it and change it but his attitude was so bad that I told my daughter to just take it as it was. Never once came over to ask if it was all ok, was too busy smoking out in the back garden with the other staff. Food wasn’t too bad but really don’t know why it took so long and the staffs attitudes need looking at. It’s customers that keep these places going so at least give good customer service. I won’t be going back a 3rd time!!!

Me and my family had decided to go here for Sunday dinner as a last minute birthday meal, and it was abysmal. The food was cold, the lack of vegetables was ridiculous, the Yorkshire puddings were greasy. The gravy tasted like it was reheated, and there was lumps of fat on the plate, the plates had also looked like they were used just before us, dried on gravy on the edges. The drinks were lukewarm, the Pepsi had bits of white stuff floating in it, and the beer tasted like it had been sat in the pipes. The overall atmosphere of the pub was dreadful, the boss was acting like it was a problem for us taking so much space. It was an inconvenience for us to order more drinks, we had coffee after our meal and the coffee was stale and powder was floating in my drink and it was freezing cold. The cleanliness of the pub was disgusting, honestly wouldn’t let my dog eat off the floor, the cutlery was dirty, the owner treated us like second class citizens. Would genuinely never recommend this restaurant to anyone, better restaurants down the road in Southampton.

First of all the service while friendly was slow, the temperature was arctic in the restaurant with the waitress explaining she was unable to to put the heating as it was controlled by the lady lady and she was out for the evening. Although she provide an addition heater on however that made little difference. Now to the food Liver and bacon x 2 in prepped liver the had gristle all through delivered without bacon sloppy mash that tasted instant with undercooked veg and just warm cod with undercooked veg and sloppy mash again questionable on whether it was instant and cold Belly Pork with sloppy mash and undercooked veg. No complaint on the two steaks or the Nachos Deserts crumbles were burnt at ÂŁ228 for food and drinks this was not an experience I would recommend . Poor quality and overpriced

Hoped to have a few drinks prior to a Thai meal in Hamble. Was served an undrinkable glass of red wine and asked if I could replace it for another variety in case the wrong one had been poured. Was refused as had taken a couple of sips, despite my partner having a full pint of Guinness and we were hoping to while away an hour at a lovely table. Sadly the attitude of the bar staff would not warrant a return visit and the wine was left more than 7/8 full at the bar as a replacement was refused. We went to a lovely pub at the King & Queen - spent an hour, lovely wine, great service and tried to give a tip and were told there was no need as it was only drinks - what a complete difference in service!!

After hearing good things we were quite looking forward to our roast dinner here. Unfortunately the roast was stone cold when it arrived, portions was horrific and the meat was tough. My friend has the lamb and I had the pork. Veggies that came on the side was pathetic but atleast the £3.50 cauliflower cheese was the hottest item on the table. The only time a waitress came to our table was to put the food down or take our plates away. Shocking really. Very disappointing. Won’t be returning

As locals we have been here and eaten several times but sadly the food has really gone down hill. Two of our party ordered the burger and chips which came out in a burnt brioche bun, the burger was dry and definitely not fresh, the chips were steak cut despite being advertised as chunky chips and the bacon on top of the burger was so old and charred it was inedible. The worse burger I’ve eaten, and the most expensive at £16! We complain and heard nothing back from management or the kitchen. I’m not sure why these plates of food left the kitchen, really seemed like they didn’t care.

Came here last month for my husband's birthday disappointed is an understatement. I ordered the soup of the day it came out cold and greasy felt like more of a soup of the month than a soup of the day. despite this, I was still looking forward to my main as I didn't think it could get any worse. I was mistaken, I ordered the steak rare and it came out like a piece of cardboard. I still ordered pudding as I was still hungry and they were bloody delicious so whoever made them is doing amazing and need a raise its the only good thing it just about saved the meal. The husband's meal was okay but wasn't worth the price.

Disappointed! We haven’t been in for a while & we were really sad at the current service and food there. The bar lady did nothing to make us feel welcome, in fact the opposite! Was borderline rude. Ordered two burgers. Tiny buns & £10 for half a chicken breast! The other was £20 & while tastes good was not value for money. Got charged £2 extra to swap from chunky fries to skinny - ridiculous! Asked for mayo - waited to be told they didn’t have any & so was given a bottle of ketchup which was still sealed & then went everywhere trying to open! We were not asked if food was ok during or after meal. Would not return! A real shame as we liked it here a few years ago.

We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your meal, we are well known for our ham being the best. We use prime gammon joints which are boiled for several hours, then roasted with honey, brown sugar and whole grain mustard before being hand carved into thick slices. This may not be what you are normally accustomed to and we can assure you were NOT served left over Sunday roast!
