There are several noteworthy restaurants inside the walls of the hill town Monticchiello; La Porta is one of them. They have a great location, overlooking the Val D'orcia, and (when the weather is good) outdoor seating which takes full advantage of their views. The indoor...seating also is cozy Tuscan, making full use of their unique space right inside the old castle gateway. The menu is an intriguing melange of dishes anchored in traditional Tuscan cuisine, but with updates and variations. The food was delicious. They have a great wine list that focuses heavily (but by no means exclusively) on Montepulciano, Montalcino and val D'orcia producers. Their wait staff is very friendly and attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about local production (and the wines). I'd give this place a try if you're staying in/around Monticchiello or Pienza. It's worth your while. Reservations highly recommended. In the 5 years since we were last in Monticchiello, the town has clearly been "discovered", and so the restaurant scene is busy, especially on weekends.More

We decided to stop in Monticiello after visiting Pienza. Cute little hill town. Beautiful flowers, people are kind and sweet. Low level of tourists. The town over looks a Tuscan valley leading to Pienza. That leads my to the restaurant. First….EPIC view. Close to city...gate do it’s easy to get to. And we had lunch there. Food was great! My wife and split a Bruschetta, then each had a pasta dish. Her truffle ravioli’s were very good. My Sienna meat sauce linguini was good as well. This place is worth a stop.More

We have been eating in Tuscany for two weeks and Osteria La Porta was the best so far for many reasons. First, the view from the restaurant is truly breathtaking. In addition the food was excellent. Beautifully presented and well prepared. Service was also perfect....Servers were attentive and fun. We received a complimentary glass of Prosecco and an amuse bouche before our meal. Finally, prices were reasonable for what we received. Only problem is that it is a small and popular restaurant and it is hard to get a reservation. If you are going to be in the area, plan ahead and book a table.More

Favorite restaurant within Pienza area. Dinners were fully booked so we took lunch reservations two days in a row and were not disappointed. The quality of food and service is above most. Andrea takes great care with his patrons. Book reservations in advance. Great wine...selection and local beer from San Q. Both dining experiences were superb. We had bruchetta, beef check, pork loin, tortellini and tagliatelle with meat sauce. Would recommend all.More

While we love Italy, there r those really special restaurants that always bring us back - La Porta is that restaurant. The experience is just incredible - savory pastas along with the Tuscan wines as we sit overlooking the vineyards in the Tuscan sun -...unforgettable! We had the appetizer of the day - pecorino cheese on a nest with tomatoes - so creative and super yummy. We then had the pappardelle with bolognese - and I had the coca de pepe - all amazing! We have friends coming to join us in Italy next week - and can’t wait to bring them here!More

What a great experience from the the view, to the food, wine list and service. Gentlemen we waited two years for that lunch and it was well worth it. Hope to visit again sometime soon

The view of Val d'Orcia and the Tuscan sunset, fully compensates and covers the lack of inspiration of the kitchen brigade leader. They almost left us the impression that either the kitchen is too small or inappropriate, or they lack the professional equipment, or they...don't have a Chef in the kitchen brigade. In general, I avoid to use the word Chef because this appellation means immense sacrifices, dedication and passion for the profession, which we unfortunately did not meet in their dishes. However, I recommend everyone to go because we had an absolutely wonderful evening in which the front of house staff was absolutely wonderful and bright, an example of authentic hospitality. The selection of wines as expected in southern Tuscany includes labels from exceptional producers of Montalcino area. Despite all the minuses mentioned, I think Osteria La Porta it's worth 5/5 points, thinking that most likely their problems in the kitchen may be due to the COVID-19 pandemic that affected all of us. I end with the thought that we will return with pleasure whenever we have the opportunity to see the most beautiful sunset in Val d'Orcia. Thank you and please do not give up the hospitality industry. Thank you to those who make our holidays and daily life more beautiful, thank you to those who too often forget to thank you as it should be.More

After a long walk from Pienza there couldn't have been a better place to stop for lunch and admire the amazing view from the terrace. The pasta and ragu was probably one of the best pasta dishes I have had.

As our appartment was in town and our host recommended that restaurant, we went there for dinner. The food and taste were amazing! Service staff also know, how to take care for the guest. Recommendations for wine were perfect.

Despite (sic!) having the most amazing views in the Val d'Orcia - Osteria La Porta is actually a really good restaurant! You could easily become a bit lazy with a location like this - but after having returned regularly over the last 20 eyars, it...still delivers even after one of the proprietares moved on. Wonderful Tuscan fare - a great wineslist and nice, personal service!More

We did not have a meal here. We had a spritzer and snacks prior to going to another restaurant. The view while having a drink here is just awesome. This restaurant was also owned at one time by another we met and she did say...meals are excellent. You will love the view if you can snag a table by the edge.More

Moreno is an exceptional chef who has a range of classic Tuscan dishes and is inventive and creative with new experiences. We enjoyed the spectacular view of the Val d’Orcia as the sunset from the single table above the historic gateway. Absolute magic, matched only...by the exceptional skills of Moreno, who served us as the kitchen is at the top of the building. Memorable dishes and fine wines.More

Typical tuscan food served in a typical tuscan atmosphere. All the ingredients are there for a great experience, and the ravioli we had were just deliciously fantastic.
