We visited with a group of friends about 3 summers ago and had lunch here. It was amazing and everyone in our group was able to order something- vegetarians. vegans and meat eaters alike. The one thing that I will never forget though is the black beans. So good. They use a lot of local grown veggies too so the food was fresh and flavorful. The view isn't half bad either. 😆 This is a must-good if you are ever in Kennecott!

The Meatza Wagon has a perfect location in this unique Alaska setting. Joe's food is delicious! He even grows his own Basil on the dashboard of the truck.Excellent lunch with a perfect view. The meatball sub was sooooo good.

Located right in the heart of the Kennicott mine. Outdoor location but relatively sheltered and with an overhead tent (very useful as it poured rain the day we visited). We shared a delicious meatball sub and an excellent soup (a salmon chowder I think).

Starting with the negative:
Although the owner/chef J.Macchina boasts years of culinary experience, he lacks basic decency and customer service. On 8/3/22, I was a customer here (see positive) and spent $23. On 8/4/22, after a full day of hiking, I sat in the table area to eat a personal packed fruit and relax. 0 customers around at this time. I walked to the wagon to use 1 napkin, where J.M didnt greet me nor offered me an item to purchase. As I thew the napkin in the business trash can after cleaning my area, J.M sarcastically remarked: "thanks for using our stuff we really appreciate it".
I continued walking away, until I realized this was the owner. I went back to state his comment was unnecessary and rather he could have reframed his point. J.M doubled down by proceeding to scold me, and made a point that unless I buy from the wagon I was not welcomed on his "property".
Future Kennicott visitors, this is a terrible way of doing business. Instead, eat at the Kennicott Glacier Lodge, buy food from the McCarthy General store or pack in your own food then sit at the many other benches and rest areas along the walkway.
Positive:
8/3/22 I had a basic and bland salmon burger. Salmon was the round frozen type offered at walmart.. but, with limited options and after a full day of hiking this will do. Female workers were kind, had excellent customer service and thankful. The owner J.M could learn these skills from his seasonal workers.

Pleasantly surprised with this local food truck! We wanted something quick to take to our room after a long day of hiking, and something reasonably priced. We hit the jackpot here. The pasta salad was unique and excellent! I didn’t recognize the pasta but loved it! My husband had the excellent meatball sub and I had the equally tasty salmon BLT. All in all, a great experience and we would highly recommend them. Not sure where he goes in the winter but if I were in Alaska, I’d find out! We’ll done chef!!

The three pigs sandwich was to die for and exactly what I needed after a grueling 9 mile hike! The pasta salad was delicious: there was many cold drink options and a nice view. We even went back and got ice cream cups after our second hike . Fast, friendly service and delicious food. This place is not to be missed if you are in the area.

We ate at this food truck after our mill tour. We don't expect much generally from a food truck. However, this food blew us away! It was so good, high quality, and just a great lunch. We would have eaten here multiple times if we had been in Kennicott again. I am GF and easily found several GF options. The one I ordered was fantastic and I had no issues from it. We highly recommend this place!

We were so happy to find this gem in Wrangell-St.Elias NP. The workers were super friendly and the food delicious. There were many choices for those who do not eat meat as well as for meat eaters. Great brownies and cookies too.! A perfect place to eat after a long hike.

The comical owner came out me picked sunflower seeds for my daughter and her friend as we enjoyed the delicious salmon bisque and what the girls described as “the world’s best meatball sub”
Jacquie from the kitchen made our meal more enjoyable by visiting with us as we took in the stunning view.
I was hoping the adorable Italian chef would come over and flirt with me, but those carnitas just weren’t going to make themselves!

The Meatza wagon has really god food and is a welcome alternative to the Kennicott Lodge. They do have vegetarian options!! They have a nice covered area to sit when it’s raining which is a nice reprieve.

I am still dreaming about that sandwich.
This is definitely the best place to eat in Kennicott.
Soup, salmon BLT, and cookies were also good.
