The first thing to note is that Chiccas has moved location and is now in the Estrella complex so it’s a little bit of hike from where it used to be but well worth the slog. The new space is massive and airy with a number of outdoor tables that will be very popular in the summer season. Reservations are still not available but, given the size of the new Chiccas, that shouldn’t be a problem. The menu hasn’t changed either as far as I can tell. I had the Monchique black pudding starter and my companion and I split the steak which, from past the experience, is far too much for one person anyway. Served medium rare, grilled to perfection with salad, fries and deadly onion rings on the side. Chiccas desserts are legendary but, not being a dessert person, I rarely indulge. I am informed however that the white chocolate with raspberry tart is ‘to die for’ which also explains why I avoid desserts! Returning diners won’t be disappointed. Newbies will become regulars.

Returning to Chiccas after five years was a real treat. If anything, the quality of the food is even better than before. Fresh local produce cooked with passion and verve to produce the most delicious dishes. The vegetarian antipasto for starter is a must - a labyrinth of delicious dips, caramelised carrots, cheeses, breads, fruits. Highly inventive and sooo tasty! For main course I went with the sticky ribs which literally fell off the bone, oozing with taste. The fish skewers were a work of art and the aubergine parmigiana was packed full of flavour. This restaurant has been running for 18 years and the hostess knows what she is doing. A hidden gem, just set back from the main drag, that you really shouldn’t miss out on.

I am a resident in Praia da Luz and know all the restaurants. Chicca's continues to be my absolute favourite. Chicca prepares everything fresh, and puts a lot of her passion and talent into the details, for example, the balsamic reduction she uses on her salads is out of this world. The sauce that serves with her Octopus rings is another example: it is just divine and made from scratch using her special recipe! If you look for boring, standard, Portuguese food, by all means, try one of the regular ones. If you want something special, with a twist, served by a true and authentic person, go to Chicca!

Firstly I’d like to state that this is not a bad review, this is an honest review. I very rarely leave bad reviews (as you can see from what I have reviewed in the past) and in today’s climate I am even more reluctant to do so but after tonight’s experience I felt I should as Chicca’s does certainly not warrant 4.5 stars in our opinion. We had been before a couple of years ago and from memory had enjoyed it so decided to visit again. Our waitress was very friendly and pleasant. We ordered bottled beer but were told that they weren’t cold (which we appreciate as we hate being served warm beer), so we ordered two imperials (small draught beers). We then ordered a salad to share as a starter but it wasn’t available (again not a problem) so we opted for the fried calamari and the artisan bread. As we were waiting I glanced at the menu and noticed that small draught beers (25cl) were priced at €2.99. (A pint at €3.99 and a bottle of 33cl at €2.50). When we asked the waitress about this, because in Lagos any local would laugh at you if you tried to charge them €3 for an imperial, she stated that the menu must be wrong. When I asked what the price was she said that she didn’t know because she just rang it up on the computer but not to worry because she would only charge us for bottles. Still not ideal as a bottle of 33cl was €2.50 and we received two beers in 20cl glasses (not 25cl), but we let it go and waited for our meal. We received the bread which consisted of one round bread roll slightly larger than if you joined your thumb and middle finger and another piece slightly longer and thicker than your middle finger. We assumed that she’d misheard us and only brought one portion. Wrong, each piece cost one euro! The calamari arrived which was, to put it simply, inedible. It was like rubber. We told the waitress who asked if we wanted an alternative starter, which we politely declined. We weren’t charged for the calamari. As for the mains they were ok but nothing spectacular and definitely overpriced. I could have bought a nice piece of tuna from Pingo and cooked a tastier dish at home for a fraction of the price. We decided against dessert. It was a really disappointing meal and although I understand that sometimes restaurants experience “off days”, tonight’s experience coupled with the ridiculous prices means that we certainly won’t be returning! There are far better restaurants in the immediate area.

We have visited chiccas several times before but this was our first visit to their new home. This has always been our favourite when visiting and we used to visit several times during our stay. We loved the fresh food, amazing service and lively / friendly atmosphere. We were so excited to visit their new home and were thrilled to hear they had expanded. We visited tonight and were bitterly disappointed. Arrived this evening about 5.45 and it was very quiet we got a table quickly and chose from the gin menu - which was extensive. Fresh bread arrived which was beautiful and we were glad to be back. The decor of the new restaurant was brilliant with a nod to the old restaurant. However things went quickly down hill! The main meal took over 45 mins to come and the restaurant was quiet, only a handful of tables in, service was rude and very slow. The quality of the food was so poor, chips no longer home made, the previously amazing salads were limp and our chicken and steak were dry and over cooked. Service continued to be so slow and in the end we didn’t wait to have pudding (historically a huge highlight) - reason being slow service and looking in the fridge cabinet the banoffee pie was less than fresh. The restaurant lacked atmosphere, the staff were not a patch on the owner who was a huge part of the restaurant charm, buzz and overall brilliance. We are gutted … bring back the old Chiccas please - we miss you.

Thanks for your review Our new restaurant is a dream! Everyone loves it! We are very busy and have the same same great HOMEMADE food the same same great staff (plus a few additions!) the same same buzz and charm just in a bigger better place.. I’m sorry you didn’t think so on your last visit I can’t think who was rude to you??? Usually that’s a reference made to me! 😜 … the new place Is very big it may seem quiet but on a grand scale we are allways busy …it’s deceiving… I don’t usually time food to table as it’s all home made and takes what it takes but since removing the tapas menu to avoid waits caused by the sheer variety and quantity of different plates at the same time we have had ZERO complaints regarding wait time … I and head of kitchen so I control the whole process every day… we have had waits in the past due to sheer numbers arriving at the same time and due to the tapas menu being available all night we took off the tapas just for the busy summer stretch to avoid such complaints I fail to understand peoples impatience to receive fresh home made food I am of the opinion that a dinner out is to savor to spend quality time with friends and family while enjoying a meal not cooked or cleared up my yourself …. People are on holiday … suposingly and shouldn’t be in a stressed rush….. we have an avarage of 1&1/2hr table Turnaround time that means you eat and drink everything you want in that time space I am not aware of anyone waiting a long time recently for their meal. Our tills are very fancy and register the time of order and the time of service from the kitchen they also register the time of payment so if you message me with the date and table you had I can find out for you to the minute when you ordered and when you were served .. sometimes when you are tired hot and hungry 10 minutes can seem like an age!!!! Anyway everyone eles is delighted with our new place so maybe you were just not on our page that night… off days happen …. I hope you come back again and see for yourself how great our bigger better chiccas is! The chips are homemade there was one night only that we had to use an alternative as my potato supplier didn’t deliver maybe that was your night , saying that I’ve since had requests for the very same chips! I CANNOT WIN!!! anyway I’ll keep on trying…big kisses. Love Chicca xx

Had the prawns for starter which were tasteless and full of water. The goats cheese and honey was O.K but difficult to mess that up, don't mind a pink burger but this was just cold , raw and uncooked in the middle. On top of that a waitress that likes the sound of her own voice killed any atmosphere. Will not return.

If you like Faulty towers, you must visit Chiccas. We visited the old hole in the wall before, now they have moved in to a much larger place. The funny thing is that it was kind of different before, now they have gone all in. We visited the place just about a week after they opened up the new place, there was a number of new hires and a bit of miss understandings but kind of funny. Today we came back eight of us and believe it or not, now they gone all in, Faulty Towers full stop! They came with a number of dishes we havent ordered, and some of us never got what we ordered. The real cauos set in when "Chicca# her self started to get involved. It got from bad to.......MANUEL "I know nothing". Kind of entertaining but not what we were there for, and not worth the money.

We haven’t been able to visit Chicca’s since 2019 in their previous location which was one of the highlights of visiting Luz for many years. We were delighted to see that they had expanded the restaurant and went expecting a great evening. The location is a little away from the centre of Luz but that was ok and the restaurant is spacious and has a nice buzz and the house wine was very nice. The food was good too though my tuna steak was a bit cold compared to the chips I also had on the plate and table service for food was slower than expected, and we heard another table complaining about the delay in food, however the serving staff were pleasant - maybe just not enough of them. One let down for us is that we looked down beside our table to see a steady stream of ants making their way across the restaurant from the window to the pillar which was by our table. I picked up my handbag from the floor and a few ants began crawling across the table. We reported this to one of the waiting staff who was apologetic and surprised by our report of the ants. I accept that insects are difficult to control in a warm climate but it was quite distracting to see the stream of ants walking across the floor, so much so we skipped dessert. Probably not so much of a highlight for us to return for a while which is a shame because the food is tasty.

It was so nice to come back to Chicca's last Friday. We were a group of seven plus wee grandaughter and Chicca was so welcoming and friendly. She really looked after us, giving her personal touch to everything. The warm home-baked bread on a platter with olive oil, aioli and butter were a lovely start followed by a vegetarian platter and a meat platter for starters. These were delicious and excellent for sharing. The main courses were, as always, very tasty. There are always enough choices for vegetarians which is nice to see (and taste). Next time I will be ordering a selection of tapas so that I can taste a wider range that is on offer! Try the 9 different salads! Try the platter of desserts! They were amazing!! Thank you Chicca, it was a lovely evening and your food is wonderful!

After the last couple of years not being able to travel it was such a fantastic experience to visit and enjoy the superb food, dri ks and atmosphere. We have been to Chiccas when it was at the previous address in Luz and whilst that was always great food and drink, the new location has only taken it up another level. The layout of the restaurant gives a spacious and relaxed feel while the food is just as good I went for the sticky BBQ ribs and chips and they were to die for. All of our main meals came out at the same time amd all were piping hot and brought to the table by friendly and knowledgeable staff who were only to happy to help with condiments and additional drinks. We all had dessert and once again they were lovely. I highly recommend the Lemon Meringue Pie as i have had it before and it always tastes amazing. It was lovely to see Chicca the owner and she has once again given me a dining experience that I won't forget until I come back next year!! 5 star food, drink and overall experience and well worth a visit.

This restaurant was perfect in every way. We ate like absolute queens. The lasagne and ribs and proper chips with Alioli were divine! Chicca was full of energy and enthusiasm and knew her menu inside and out, this place absolutely is full of passion and love you can taste it in the food and the service you receive.

Went this evening. Family of 6. 90 minutes after sitting down the children still didn't have their food and only 2 of 3 starters had arrived. I went to ask the manager whether they were coming by. rude is an understatement to how I was met! I have never left a restaurant mid meal but I could not stay in this place. Bear in mind I have worked in many restaurants and am very forgiving but this is,bar none, the worst service I have come across . Also, the "bruschetta" that came was revolting. I sincerely wish it wasn't my last meal in Luz so I could speak to the owners/managers in person but unfortunately they ruined our last evening

We've been coming to Chicca's restaurant since we bought a place in Luz 7 years ago. The food is always great but now that they've moved to their bigger premises, the restaurant is even better! Our favourites are the tempura prawns, the ribs and the melton chocolate puddings, although there's lots on the menu we love. You can't book, but that's not a problem now that they have so much space. We always found if you turn up early, they'll fit you in. The staff are helpful, the space is ambient with Chicca's array of dried chillis, bay leaves and fairy lights and the atmosphere is good - always a busy restaurant which goes to show how popular it is.

As a birthday treat we took our friends (party of 7) to this restaurant yesterday, heard lots of good and bad things said about Chiccas so went with an open mind. THE CONS- The host is super unprofessional and calls everybody LUV, she is very sharp and creates a bad impression as soon as your at your table. From sitting down we all waited 2 hours before the mains arrived, some cremated some ok, the staff seemed scared to death of the woman in charge and we couldn’t blame them. Not once did anybody ask us if we were happy or enjoying the meals. All we could hear around us was unsatisfied customers at other tables and a very hostile host. THE PROS We don’t have to go there again, there’s plenty of other restaurants where the hosts are polite and grateful for your business SUMMARY Give it a miss is our advice!

If you love homemade food then this is the restaurant for you. I'm a real fan of the salads, so much thought goes into them definately not like the boring salads most restaurants in Luz serve. We found the owner to be very helpful and catered to our dietary requirements. Will be back soon !.
