Firstly I’d like to state that this is not a bad review, this is an honest review. I very rarely leave bad reviews (as you can see from what I have reviewed in the past) and in today’s climate I am even more reluctant to...do so but after tonight’s experience I felt I should as Chicca’s does certainly not warrant 4.5 stars in our opinion. We had been before a couple of years ago and from memory had enjoyed it so decided to visit again. Our waitress was very friendly and pleasant. We ordered bottled beer but were told that they weren’t cold (which we appreciate as we hate being served warm beer), so we ordered two imperials (small draught beers). We then ordered a salad to share as a starter but it wasn’t available (again not a problem) so we opted for the fried calamari and the artisan bread. As we were waiting I glanced at the menu and noticed that small draught beers (25cl) were priced at €2.99. (A pint at €3.99 and a bottle of 33cl at €2.50). When we asked the waitress about this, because in Lagos any local would laugh at you if you tried to charge them €3 for an imperial, she stated that the menu must be wrong. When I asked what the price was she said that she didn’t know because she just rang it up on the computer but not to worry because she would only charge us for bottles. Still not ideal as a bottle of 33cl was €2.50 and we received two beers in 20cl glasses (not 25cl), but we let it go and waited for our meal. We received the bread which consisted of one round bread roll slightly larger than if you joined your thumb and middle finger and another piece slightly longer and thicker than your middle finger. We assumed that she’d misheard us and only brought one portion. Wrong, each piece cost one euro! The calamari arrived which was, to put it simply, inedible. It was like rubber. We told the waitress who asked if we wanted an alternative starter, which we politely declined. We weren’t charged for the calamari. As for the mains they were ok but nothing spectacular and definitely overpriced. I could have bought a nice piece of tuna from Pingo and cooked a tastier dish at home for a fraction of the price. We decided against dessert. It was a really disappointing meal and although I understand that sometimes restaurants experience “off days”, tonight’s experience coupled with the ridiculous prices means that we certainly won’t be returning! There are far better restaurants in the immediate area.More

Upon reading the UK will require quarentine after residents visit Portugal, we needed to support business so we tried Chicca's for the first time. The food was delicious and homemade. They do take away if you don't want to dine in but it's a really...cute place.More

Well I went for the special, the wild boar burguer, and it was very tasty, but I was thrown off right from the get-go as it was huge.....WAY too much for a normal person to eat!! It came with fries, and a salad (which I...didn’t try as I was stuffed from eating one third of the burger. Chicca was very attentive as she described EVERY dish on the menu to us, a real character, telling how each dish is made and how her boyfriend shot the wild boar. She was telling another table this too, so it must be true. After our meals came, we didn’t see her again, but were looked after by another very capable staff member. Bread was put on our table (we didn’t order it) and we were charged for it. Weird. Would not recommend as a family friendly spot, as the children, if being children, would be an annoyance to fellow diners....the acoustics would not allow for rambunctious little ones. Overall, an okay spot to eat.More

Only a few people in the restaurant, the owner is way too loud and intimidating, pretending to eat the food while working, loudly stating how yummy the food is. Food very bland and overpriced and over rated. Wooden tables are old and sticky. Toilets in...the middle of the restaurant with a shared wash basin and a hand drier that barely warms up, Pity the table next to the toilets! Cramped seating and certainly not a place to go if you want a quiet night. Owner constantly talks very loud and tries to raise expectations of the food before it arrives. Lots of shouting in the kitchen, bit like fawlty towers but not even funny, just annoying. Far better restaurants within a few metres of here.More

Arrived around 6 pm on a Sunday night and everything started off good - service was attentive and our starter of calamari was excellent. More people start coming in and the place starts getting really cramped because the tables are so close together and people’s...chairs are hitting the back of yours, the tables layout is that squashed together. Main courses were excellent. By dessert time we could hardly hear across the table, it was that loud. We got desserts to go (which were very good) and had them at home with some coffee and wine. My recommendation for next time would be to go during the week (they’re closed on Saturday) and go early. They only had Chicca (who is quite the character) and one other server on the floor and the service got really hectic on a Sunday night. The food is excellent, though. Wine list is pricey for Portugal but had good offerings. I’d go back again but knowing what I’m getting myself in for.More
