Nestled in a scenic spot of Skiathos, the Windmill Restaurant captivates diners with its stunning views, particularly enchanting at sunset. Guests have called out the unique table settings and the overall atmosphere as distinctive elements that enhance the dining experience. While the food receives praise for its flavor, opinions are split regarding its value; some commend the combination of taste and vistas as worth the expense, whereas others find it overpriced, noting the portions and taste occasionally disappoint. Service at the Windmill Restaurant is largely acclaimed for its attentiveness and effectiveness in addressing any issues.

We visited the place for a dinner, with reservation in advance, which is highly recommendable if you would like to be seated in specific areas. Staff is very kind, multi-language speaking, the food menu is delicate and finely selected. The service was impeccable, quality of the food also. Highly recommended for a fine-dine experience.

My partner and I visited The Windmill in September 2020 during the Covid pandemic when those from England could visit. (So sorry for the very late review, but hope it reaches those hoping to visit this summer!) We had booked the ‘honeymoon’ table on recommendations from others about its views and ambience. It did not disappoint - it was stunning watching the sun set. We had 3 beautiful courses each, all faultless. People on here have commented that the food is ‘pricey’ however it only equates to a standard restaurant back home in the UK and the quality and presentation is fantastic! I was also pregnant and nothing was too much trouble in terms of advising on/adapting my food slightly. Though I couldn’t drink, my partner had reasonably priced wine which seemed to go down a treat. Little did I know that my partner was to propose that night and the all the staff were in on it! On speaking after the proposal it turns out that the lady who owns it (I’ve forgotten your name, I’m so sorry) had been amazing in helping him organise it, and even ordered in some huge flowers from a local florist. Thank you so much for going above and beyond to help with this addition to our evening. It’s worth noting that the restaurant was less busy than usual purely due to Covid disruptions...I can imagine you really have to book in advance to get a spot here in normal times, particularly if you want the honeymoon table!! Overall the Windmill is definitely the restaurant worth visiting when you want something more special than your average taverna. We absolutely can’t wait to return to eat here again and also re-live our engagement with the addition of our new little one. Thank you so much Team Windmill for making our visit to Skiathos unforgettable.

We had a simply wonderful meal here last week. We had reserved a table many months ago as we wanted to return following our original visit as a very young & new couple in 1996. It was joyful to return this summer with our two older teenagers. The welcome was warm, the view breathtaking, watching the planes land was incredible from this height. The menu is not vast but has enough choice, the food was absolutely spectacular, the service warm but not intrusive. Bit of an issue with a couple of persistent wasps (love a bit of nature but it was proving difficult!) but a brilliant waiter lit candles and deterrents which kept them away. Puddings and wine were delicious - it was £250 for the 4 of us including alcohol for 3 people and whilst not cheap, it was certainly worth every penny. Would love to return. Would recommend an early table, booking in advance and being prepared for the many steps up to it - the view is so worth the climb!

Was really excited to go to the windmill as I’d heard great things, However left the restaurant very disappointed. Firstly our reservation was for 8pm and we arrived on time. There was no one around the entrance and we stood around for ages to trying to get someone’s attention - and then we were told to sit in a sofa area and wait. We didn’t get seated until 8.30pm. When we were seated the view of the harbour was amazing and I loved looking out at the sea, so I could not fault the view!! A great place to sit and take in the view of skiathos town! After that it went downhill, we had only ordered two mains but they took an hour to come and we didn’t eat until 9.30pm? Within that hour our server was not attentive at all, I think we saw him once. He did not check on us or say a word and we felt a bit isolated and not welcomed. We topped up our own wine most of the time too. I need to add that in every restaurant we have visited in skiathos all have offered some sort of complimentary bread/appetiser and water - however this place did not which I feel should have been included as it’s one of the more expensive restaurants! Instead we sat with nothing for an hour and no one came over to apologise etc. We were also a bit frustrated about the food - we had both wanted to swap our potatoes that came with our beef fillets (so instead of crushed potatoes we wanted new potatoes in oil and herbs ). The waiter however said it was not possible to do this and that we could have vegetables instead of potatoes, and then pay extra for the potatoes we wanted (Again, as it’s a more expensive restaurant we thought it was odd they wouldn’t do a simple swap). Anyway we did that and ordered a side of herby potatoes and a side of dauphinois potatoes. When the food came though the vegetables on our plate had herby potatoes mixed in with them?? Was very frustrated as the waiter had not told us vegetables included potatoes already, or even recommended we just shared one side. At this point we were so hungry after waiting so long, so just ate quickly and left. I’m sorry to have had to write this review as I was so excited and the view was amazing, but we left feeling very let down. The service kind of spoiled the meal. I would have to come here next year and see if we get a different experience! Sorry.

We have noted your comments and thank you very much. We would like to remind you that with the Covid19 strict mesures in Greece, with restrictions on the number of distanced tables and therefore a high reduction in our staff level this may have affected our standards and altered your experience, we apologise for the inconvenience caused. We hope to return to normal in 2021 and welcome you again with the high standards that have always been our priorities at The Windmill. Kind regards

Our Friday dinner was not a positive experience and what was our most expensive meal on Sciathos was also our worst at the Windmill. Two simple starters of beef carpaccio and fried calamari took 50 minutes to arrive after delays with sitting us down to our reservation, taking forever to present menus, simply ages to take a wine order and eventually take our food order for two people! The waiting staff were clearly embarrassed by their tone and demeanour. The beef carpaccio was served on a tomato relish which detracts from the flavour of the fillet of beef and not needed. The French trimmed rack of lamb wasn’t quite French trimmed as the chine bone was left intact making it impossible to cut through the ribs to release a small loin chop so we had to gouge out prime meat with the tip of a knife whilst the meat was swimming in a slushy mash potato and tomato melange. Not an attractive presentation of the main course. So disappointing. My rating is primarily for the setting and scenery.

Despite the fact that this restaurant is undeniably a lovely spot with idyllic views, I am severely underwhelmed. We spent our holiday anticipating our anniversary meal in this restaurant, a few days before we were due to arrive, we received an email saying our confirmation had been cancelled, which was later revoked. Upon arrival, we were treated poorly, with the staff requesting our booking information several times- dare I say in a patronising manner. Once we eventually were guided to our table we found it to be the least favourable of every possible option, even though we booked a week in advance, while more preferable seating options remained vacated. Upon ordering, the staff were dismissive and insisted our food would take a while after asking trying to pressure into us into order a starter- which we had no intention of as it was so late. The restaurant is clearly on the more expensive side, for which you would expect a more premium service, which we certainly didn’t receive. Highly anticipated, highly disappointed. Would not recommend.

Hi Lucy, Your reservation was cancelled because you booked two separate tables. You apologised after as you had issues with your credit card. Why didn’t you ask to move to another table? Your obviously a world traveller with lots of experience in fine dining. We apologise we didn’t satisfy your needs

We came 7 years ago and it was really nice so we were really excited to go back, however this time it was a disaster. The welcome seemed off and once we sat down they informed us that the meal we both wanted (lamb) was no longer available. After 45 minutes waiting we finally had someone come to take out order. We asked for the beef x 2 to which she replied “now finished!” At this point we had been sat for ages and a bit fed up. We asked for the bill for our glass of wine and left. We didn’t even get an apology and the service to us was terrible. For their reputation and such a special restaurant it was unacceptable. My advice is pre order your food if you can or book a 7pm table as anything later there will be little left.

We were at this Restaurant for the first time tonight and all I can say is Wow! We pre-booked the Honeymoon balcony and so glad we did. The views were absolutely stunning. We thought that we would be rushed through our meal so they could get a second sitting in, but that was not the case and we were left to take our time choosing from the menu and to eat the two courses we chose. The quality of the food was excellent and although expensive, we felt the whole experience made it well worth it. We would return if in Skiathos again and would recommend.

Catering for fine dining European style cuisine this is a great place to go for a romantic meal, I cannot fault the location watching the sun set over Skiathos town. The service by our French waiter was spot on including his choice of wine. To top it off we did not have a bad course I was only gutted they had run out of the chocolate spheres for desert. The price is set correctly and provides good value. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We visited the windmill last week after a recommendation, well what a perfect setting, high up in the town, be prepared for a hike but once you're there you will love it, the service was excellent and the food even better. But remember to book otherwise you could be worn out for nothing. Totally recommend that you visit. First class.

The novelty of eating dinner in a windmill was enough for us to book a table here but the novelty did not stop there! The views were simply stunning looking out across the town and out to sea. We had the honeymoon table and eating dinner whilst the sun was setting was such a treat. The staff are so attentive and pleasant and the food was just incredible. I had the prawns to start. They were juicy, perfectly cooked and the flavours were amazing…best prawns on the island by far. I then had the Seabass on the beetroot risotto - absolutely fantastic. My partner had the lamb shank that literally fell off the bone. This was the most expensive meal we had but only by a little and worth every Penny. We would have paid double in the UK and the portion sizes would have been half. Once the sun had gone down it was a bit chilly but we were provided with blankets before even getting a chance to ask. A great experience run by a friendly team who know what they’re doing and get it right. We won’t forget that sunset in a hurry!

We ate here on our first night in skiathos, we were celebrating our anniversary and I had emailed back in May to book the “honeymoon” table so bear in mind that it gets booked up in advance. It is expensive, but then skiathos is expensive! This is a special occasion place, you have to be prepared to spend a little extra. Overall the bill came to around €130 for three courses plus cocktails for two people. Would recommend if you have a special occasion to celebrate. It is up A LOT of stairs so also bear that in mind before booking.

My wife booked the honeymoon table which is an extra set of stairs inside the windmill which brings you out onto a small balcony for 2 which you have to book well in advance as it’s free and very popular. The views are breathtaking overlooking the whole of skiathos harbour front. Service was very friendly and helpful as we ordered a bottle of house white at €17 and a litre of water at €3. Then bread and butter at €2.50 with starters of mushrooms at €10.50 and soup of the day €8.50. Mains of lamb at €23.50 and pork steak at €21.50 with this we shared a side of vegetables at €5. All the food was lovely, especially the pork steak which was delicious. Too full for desserts but a great whole round experience we had.

We had been recommended The Windmill by our wedding venue in Manchester, and it did not disappoint! Karen and the team are all so attentive and friendly, and gave us a complimentary glass of fizz on arrival to celebrate our honeymoon which was lovely. We booked the honeymoon table which has the most amazing views over Skiathos, and perfect to see the sunset! The food was absolutely amazing, easily one of the best meals we have eaten on our trip! I had the fillet steak and my husband had the prawn starter and ribeye steak special - all perfectly cooked and so tasty with great sauces and sides. We then shared the banoffee pie for dessert which was incredible. We will 100% be coming back next year as Skiathos is now on our list of places to return!
