Great place to eat and enjoy Canela’s beauty. Close to the stone cathedral, take your time to drink wine, have a meal and read a good book. Besides great food (and desert), there’s a bookstore and local art crafts for sale. Don’t miss the Lemon...Cake in a stick!More

The place has really a nice atmosphere and the staff is very efficient. When you first get there, you cannot imagine that they can have such a great food in a kind of second hand book shop cafe but you'll gonna have a great experience....I went for the "Costa do Sol" prawn orange risotto with salmon! Really great choice! One of the best meals I had in the region. I strongly recommend and would definetely go again!More

Nice location just in front of the main cathedral, we stopped here for a light lunch but the whole region's gastronomy is fantastic so we ate too much. Got two gigantic portions of polenta that kept us full the whole day and lovely local beer...from Rio Grande do Sul.More

Cozy and charming bookstore/cafe/bistrot. The best place in Canela ever! Delicious juices and sandwiches and a wonderful mandioquinha soup. Staff super friendly and your pet is welcome!

We were attracted by this small bookstore/restaurant located almost in the front of Canela's cathedral. Menu was very criative, with lighter choices. Deserts are excellent. If you want only a quick bite, they have sandwiches and soups. I had the brown rice risotto and my...husband had the entrecote with a green salad. Both excellent!More

Walking the streets of Canela can seem like a visit to a shopping mall - not too much to see except retail premises. There IS a striking 1950s cathedral at the top of the hill, the Catedral de Pedra, which is worth a look. Just...down the main shopping thoroughfare, on the Rua Felisberto Soares, you find the Emporio Canela. It`s well named - like an old-fashioned `emporium`, it sells an eclectic mix of new and used books and music, artefacts and pictures, with bric-a-brac and beer ephemera for decor. It`s also a restaurant. There are tables in the main rooms, and outside on the front terrace. We sat in a quieter section alongside the main rooms. The extensive beer menu was intriguing - I had an Irish Guiness, later followed by an Irish whiskey. Food is basic but good - onion soup, omelettes, sandwiches. We had the first two, and were satisfied - it`s bar food of a good standard. Service was slow, but there`s plenty to browse through in the shop while you wait - I bought an English-language Brazilian cook book. The affable patron is happy to recount the history of the place and to find something of interest for you. In an otherwise characterless street (we tried eating elsewhere, and were underwhelmed), the Emporio Canela is a welcome burst of colour. The fact that it remained busy throughout the afternoon suggests that the locals and vistors think so too.More
