We love everything about this spot. Perhaps we feel such affinity because a few of our forebears spent so much time sluicing and dredging and drinking up here in the bad old days. Mt Difficulty have done a wonderful job of creating this dining location...More

We had this as a recommendation from a wine expert so we drove down from Wanaka. The restaurant sits on a hill looking out over the Otago valley. The wine tasting area is a little tight but the restaurant and patio are not. The service...More

We love the Roaring Meg Pinot Gris and thus wanted to pay a visit to the winery producing this wine! The lunch was absolutely delicious, and they offer a free wine tasting when one has lunch there (otherwise wine tasting would be just 2 NZD!)....More

I really liked that they offered cellared wines in the restaurant (by the bottle) to drink with lunch, so you could try them to see how the current vintage available in the cellar door might develop in the bottle over the next few years. They...More

The food here was excellent. The chef is clearly inventive incorporating haute cuisine techniques into local flavors. We had the cheese plate (exceptional), fish of day (salmon and scallops oh my), and the server-recommended lamb which were all excellent. The food was a bit pricey...More

We had lunch here out on the large veranda/patio overlooking the mountains. What incredible views! We ordered the sharing platters and cheeseboards, really nice with lots of variety that included a lovely smoked mussel pate that I could have eaten all day - fantastic. Nice...More

We enjoyed our lunch at Mount Difficult, highly recommended you book in advance. We also had the pinot noir tasting tray, and we are huge fans of the 2011 Bannockburn and latest Chinaman's terrace. The market fish was excellent. Great views and a nice way...More

Description
The Winery Restaurant at Mt Difficulty provides a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy a delicious lunch. The restaurant is open daily between 12 noon and 4pm. On a fine day the outdoor terrace is the perfect spot to take in the flavours of the region while enjoying the uniquely Central Otago views. The chef produces imaginative cuisine, and the menu showcases the freshest of produce, with a choice of substantial fare or platters to share. The kitchen is open and the dining environment is casual. All main meal options come with suggested wine matches, though diners are welcome to make their own choices during a complimentary wine tasting at our Cellar Door tasting counter. Reservations are essential - demand is high year round and much of our seating is weather dependent.
