We ate lunch here while on a Rick Steves Tour. The tables were arranged across the front room of the restaurant while most of the preparation was on an open heart fire table in next room. Bathrooms are at the back and a quick tip...do...not wait at the first door, rather go through it to see if a bathroom is available. The meal started with two pasta dishes, both with wide flat noodles. One included cubes of beef, and the other large mushrooms, both were very good. This was followed by salad, and then a main of veal and potatoes cooked on the hearth. Dessert was a strudel like dish. The grappa was a highlight as we were offered 4 types; plain, mistletoe, walnut and cherry. The walnut is a very common grappa in Slovenia and this part of Croatia.More

Probably the best fish dishes in Istria. Excellent service and always great atmosphere. Firewood place is amazing. Really great place.

The waitress approched to the table, quickly listed few dishes (appetizers, soups and main dishes) and wasn’t very happy when we asked if she can repeat as we didn’t know what to order. Then we ordered prosciutto and cheese as a starter (one portion each)...- very average and expensive for what we got. Then we ordered another appetizer, pasta with trufffles and it was ok. For main dish we had fish and fiorentin steak. Fish was nothing special and the steak was good. They did not impress us and we will not come back.More

We dined with a tour group- set 4 course meal- wood fire grilled scallops, 2 pastas and 3 meats. Roast potatoes and vegetable risotto, salad and excellent strudel and grappa. Friendly family run place- simple and delicious food.

Perfect dinner with the family. Very good and friendly service. Pasta with truffle was great, fine steak and well grilled fish. Price-performance ratio was sensational. Gladly again!

We didn't make a reservation but it wasn't a problem. We had jakopove kapice (shells) and mixed octopus/shrimps for an entry and a grilled fish with a kale-potato side dish, and shared a cheesecake (we could have skipped the desert). Everything was super tasty and...fresh. The wine was also great. It's a bit more expensive than in most restaurants, but it is worth it. Staff is very kind and the atmosphere is pleasant I was in Astarea 15 years ago, and can confirm they keep a top quality. We'll come back again for sure.More

We were in Astarea few times. This time was terrible. Firstly, as you can see in my plates was a hair. After the meal, waitress took my plate , looked at the hair and didn’t say anything! After few minutes my father said something about...the hair and she said okay but your daughter could say that to me , poorly apologised and that’s it! During the whole lunch that same waitress stared at us and didn’t gave us any privacy.More

After a great visit to Motovan we were advised to make the quick drive over to Konoba Astarea! I’m so glad we did! We were given wonderful service! I know this is a locals restaurant but we were given a very warm welcome. The fish...is fresh, the Istrian dishes are delicious! There is a variety of seating options! We didn’t try dessert but my octopus salad was spectacular! I will definitely make the trip again!More

The location and interior design of the restaurant are amazing. they serve good vine, good fish, but rather problematic beef and pork grill dishes. The restaurant has high status reputation, but they serve simple, correct food, nothing more.
