Everything I ate was delicious especially The fish that was fresh and well cooked. The service was a bit slow but the food was so good that I don't mind it.

Had been recommended by our villa host but we were disappointed for dinner. I have heard the lunch buffet (unlimited for 9E) is the better deal. Dinner was not good value - somewhat expensive with small portions. An expensive steak had pretty good flavor, but...served only with potato chips for a side dish. The service staff was very uninspired. Not unfriendly but certainly was enthusiastic about our business (we were first to arrive for dinner so the only ones in the restaurant for awhile). Would not go back for dinner, might try the buffet lunch.More

We were staying relatively nearby to this place and the property manager suggested this restaurant. We had a very nice dinner here. The location is nice, near the water and looking up at the beautiful hills above. From inside the restaurant the ambience is fine,...nothing too special. The food was very good and the service was fine. Would recommend.More

We had here excelent Polvo a lagareiro. It is served in traditional portuguese ceramics. Side dish were potatoes, onion, garlic. It could be less garlic. It was little bit too much.

I went there with my Girlfriend and I have to say that we both enjoyed our meals. Now the service was a bit slow but that is expected when the place is full to capacity. My girlfriend ordered the cod and I ordered the octopus,...which was absolutely perfect and cooked to a perfection. We had a nice white wine from Pico and it was awesome. Considering how busy it was, I have to say that the service was very good and they were very attentive to my table. Thankyou, we will be back.More

This was my first trip ever to Pico, where my great grandfather lived. We arrived at 6pm, checked into the place we were staying and went for dinner. We heard this place was a good place to eat, I'll never trust anyone's recommendations again. It...started all of with a waiter with an attitude, seemed like either he didn't want to be working or didn't want us to be there. We placed our appetizer order, only 1/2 of what we ordered arrived. our main course was over cooked, we opted not to try desert even through we believed it really couldn't get any worst. When I ordered my drink (I forget what it was) a soda, I was told they didn't have it, then I ordered something else and was brought something totally different. When I went inside to the bathroom, the item I originally wanted was right there in cooler. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone even if they only wanted water.More

Heard about how good the Restaurant Montanha was so I figured it was a must try. My service was as good as my server poor at best. I had a male waiter and it seemed waiting on us was a burden. He was rude and...not pleasant. I asked him in Portugese if he spoke English he said he did and the servers attitude got worse. I ordered a loin of the mountain meal he said we don’t have that I then ordered a mixed grill he said no we don’t have that. I then asked him to point to what they do have I ended up with steak with mushroom sauce as well as my wife. My son got the tuna steak. The funny thing is the couple that came in and sat next to us got they loin of the mountain and mixed grill in English and got them. The food came back over cooked the steak was tough and not worth what I paid for. My son’s tuna was order rear came back well done and dry. We had to ask a female server for silverware to eat with and we are still waiting on our appetizers. The drinks a third server brought over an alpoligized. So in short if you want very poor service, and over cooked food this is your place. I have been in the Azores for a week and this was the worse place we ate at. We all had better service and food from the small no name cafe’sMore

The service at Montanha was absolutely terrible. We were a group of 5, 4 adults and an 11 year old. We walked and were greeted immediately and were told we would have to sit outside. That was fine with us. A male water came over...and asked what we wanted for drinks. We were new to Pico and wanted to try the wine we had heard so much about. We asked for a local red, the waiter said we don’t have any. I opened the wine list and pointed to several reds from Pico. He told us we don’t have those. Then I asked for a local white. He pointed to 3 bottles, the three most expensive bottles and said “that’s all I have”. I asked about the others, he said “we have a new menu but didn’t change it yet”. Ok, we will take the white. One person ordered Orange Fanta, and he never asked the other two people what they wanted. This guy was clearly not happy with us, as his attitude was terrible. We ordered two “starters”; the cheese plate and the breaded octopus. Next a girl came over to ask if anyone had been over yet. We gave her the order for the two people the guy ignored; a coke. A few minutes later the guy came back with our bread and cheese and yelled at the girl in Portuguese that was helping us. She stormed off. We never got the coke, never got the octopus. When the cheese and bread arrived we had no utensils. After waiting for a while we took them from the table next to us. Now, it’s time to order our food....One in our party orders the mixed grill....the waiter says we don’t have that. So he orders something else, he says we don’t have that, he orders something else, we don’t have that....I am not making this up. The first 3 things he ordered he was told they did not have. But, we all heard the table next to us order the mix grill 10 minutes later. Then the waiter comes around and says “we don’t have any orange only passion fruit”. Ok, my husband says I guess I’ll have passion fruit. When the coke never arrived, my husband goes inside, and gets a coke and orange Fanta out of the fridge. Then the bill comes. The octopus was not on it, but we when paid with our credit card, then the girl comes back and says they are cash only. There is nothing, anywhere that says cash only. So now for the food. We all had steak of some sort; when we ordered we were asked if we want medium rare or well done. None of us got what we asked for as far as cooking temperature. The steak was very very tough. I can’t recommend the food at all. The chips were bland and nothing more than what comes out of a bag. Overall this was a terrible experience. I don’t think I have ever had a server with such a bad attitude and so unwelcoming. I don’t know if the guy that waited on us was a manager or a server, but he is going to ruin this business eventually.More

We are here twice whilst staying in Pico. A friendly place with a very good menu. Very good steaks and fresh fish plus local dishes to try. Good value for money and good local wines. Well worth a visit
