We rang an hour before our arrival and managed to book a table which was great at short notice. Got our drinks at the bar and got taken straight to our table. The menu was excellent (2 courses for £12) and we weren't stuck for choices at all! We had the portobello mushroom starter, calamari and prawn cocktail. All went... More

Had a phone call today after booking a table for bank holiday Monday two weeks ago cancelling table. Told my daughter that answered the phone that they had double booked us but tell me when I ring that they close at 5pm on a bank holiday! Manager said he had been trying to ring me for 5 days but I... More

Family Sunday lunch. The three of us had the prawn cocktail starter and the roast beef dinner. Excellent quality supported by very good and pleasant service. The three of us then shared two mixed desserts which was also of very good quality. All in all we had two three courses and one two course. Additionally we had one pint of... More

On the return leg of a trip to London last Sunday, I was travelling through Penhow on the A48, around five o'clock. I saw a sign outside the Rock and Fountain saying 'Open all Day'. My choice was go home and cook or stop here for food, as it happened there was a layby 100m past the pub, I stopped,... More

A group of 6 of us booked for an evening meal on Saturday night for a "get together" as we hadn't seen each other for some time. We were shown upstairs and shown to our table which had FIVE seats. When we pointed this out the management apologised as they had given our table to the wrong party of 6.... More

As a party of 6 we ate at the Rock and Fountain on a Saturday night and it was packed. The atmosphere in the pub was great. We had a starter and a main course and everyone in our party really enjoyed their meals. The main courses chosen were either steak or swordfish. The portions were large, meals cooked as... More

Yes the meat is not the best quality but for the price what can you expect. It is a balance between value and quality and they seem to have it right. My personal choice would be to pay a bit extra but judging by how busy it was, I'm in the minority. Staff were friendly, service good. I would return... More

2 course for £12 Phenomenal value for money. Starters delicious, well presented and well dressed. Steak on the stone very tasty but unfortunately very fatty, and no vegetables? Forgot about them until too late. Would have loved the option of fillet steak. Duo of fish well cooked and well presented. Food good, slightly lacking an atmosphere but Monday night! Staff... More

From the moment we arrived we were delighted with the speed of service, the ambiance of an old world country pub, combined with a great menu. We were hungry and in a hurry to eat. Drinks arrived at our table from the bar, almost at the same moment as we sat down, despite the fact that it was busy at... More
