Thought would give this Black Cat deli a try. Went in -no acknowledgement and table had dirty plates from last customer. You have to order at counter. Limited menu but okay for a snack. Sitting at table - still dirty dishes there with lots of staff busy. When the food arrived it looked nice but server had to be reminded... More

Visited this cafe (think it is called the black cat now?) before Easter. Arrived with an hour left in the car park hoping to get drinks and some food. To say the service was slow would be too generous - it was pathetically slow! Drinks took over quarter of an hour to arrive and in another half hour we were... More

I use the deli on a weekly basis mostly because they serve the best coffee. The food menu is adequate for a quick bite to eat, and offers tasty choices from wraps, soup, panini' sand cakes

This is always a great place to stop in for a coffee and a cake when out shopping; I like the warm blankets provided on cold days so that you can still enjoy the outside space. inside is nice and comfy also and really homely despite essentially be a cafe / shop too. The staff are always pleasant and the... More

I've been visiting M.deli for a number of years now for my morning coffee when in Maldon. It started as a delicatessen with a few tables but it is a sign of their good coffee and food that that the coffee shop side of the business has expanded. The range of cakes available is limited but what they have is... More

I love this deli, and as said above wonderful home made, fresh and warm cheese scones to die for. Love the varieties of coffee too. I'd go everyday if I could

Lovely fresh made Panini's with salad while sitting in the sun. Great customer service & fresh local juices too! Even their ketchup is made fresh! Yum

I've been here a few times. I've always had great food, can't fault it really. People say its a bit pricey but its quality food, you pay for what you get and this place serves the best.

Description
We discovered Maldon Delicatessen (m.deli) about 5 years ago not long after it opened and have been regulars ever since. With super friendly and accommodating staff and amazing scrummy food we’ve rarely found a reason to go anywhere else in Essex when eating out or looking for great deli food. There is a fab deli counter and shelves and shelves of amazingly yummy produce. You can also eat in on their comfy sofas or chairs, or in the lovely courtyard outside and just watch the world go by. They have really tasty lunches and indulgent, beautifully crafted homemade cakes, not to mention coffee that any real coffee connoisseur would die for!

For the conscientious consumer it’s an easy retail experience as m.deli promotes products that are organic, free range, and with produce provenance. They stock loads of great seasonal local and carefully sourced continental produce as well as great gift ideas. The restaurant is child and baby friendly; it’s eco conscious (no gas guzzling heaters in winter –instead you can have a hot water bottle with hand knitted m.deli cover and blankets to match!); in the summer they have live acoustic Blues guitar on Sundays for a really chilled lunch experience, and there are always tasting events on the calendar. Jimmy Doherty of TV series Jimmy’s Farm has also done events at the Deli and the combination of sublime deli smells with Jimmy’s sausages cooking on the BBQ proved a winning combination, attracting even our most distant relatives to come and visit! m.deli seems to draw regulars and new customers of all ages and sorts and there’s a really nice community feel to the place. The owners and staff have worked hard to support other local businesses, local artists and local charities as well as giving personal support to customers and to community projects. Thoroughly recommended on all counts!
