What a great restaurant. Super delicious food, wonderful cocktails and GREAT entertainment. Went last night and heard an incredible jazz group. If you like flavored martinis order the Black Cherry Cosmo. It is truly delicious. Walleye featured fish is really good. We had wonderful service. We used complimentary valet who was exceptional.

Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe We drove quite a distance to listen to a group of talented musicians, only to find out the lead guitarist was ill. They had tried to contact us, but we must’ve been in a dead zone and didn’t hear the message until afterwards. The group still sounded good with just a bass guitar, keyboards, and drums. The disappointment was in the meal. We’d been there before and although pricey, it was delightful. To start, the smoked tomato soup with Boursin toast was very tasty. The filet mignon seemed overcooked and cold, with really no distinct flavor. Same for the bistro steak sandwich; no flavor to the prime rib, very fatty, did not taste charred onions, nor horseradish aioli. The fresh chips served with the sandwich were burnt and the fries cooked in duck fat were a waste of money. Great mashed potatoes and wine! Perhaps next time; just soup, couple appetizers, and a bottle of wine.

Great atmosphere, acoustics, food, service and entertainment make this little spot the best two for one around! Loved the mixture of live Jazz and delicious food. A little pricey but justified knowing your getting a package deal! The general manager Carl is on point and covers every inch of detail...we will be back!

I recently visited Detroit and was invited here by an old friend and her husband. She knew I was an advid jazz fan. It was a lovely, well-appointed space with attractive light fixtures and white table cloth covered tables in a lovely neighborhood of shops. Upon arrival, I was impressed to learn that complimentary valet parking was available. I finished my delicious meal of a glass of wine, spinach salad with beef tips, and flourless chocolate cake just before the entertainment began. The band for the night did not disappoint. OMG, I was blown away by the band's performance! It was lively and spectacular with great solos and full audience participation. I loved this place, and highly recommend it for a night on the town. The show ended about 8:30pm so we were able to visit another place too. We were there on a Thursday and there are no cover charges on weekdays; however, on Fridays and Saturdays, there is a cover charge. Also, reservations are a must as Cafe is relatively small. Go early as there is open seating.

I was impressed on multiple levels after dining here recently. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived. The ambiance of the restaurant is charming and comfortable. The wait staff were very professional and helpful. My meal was cooked to perfection. The frosting on the cake were the jazz performers. I'm normally not a big jazz fan, but I was very impressed by the musicians who put on one hell of a show.

Very nice meal, reasonably priced, good service but --- it's the music that makes this place special. High quality jazz musicians perform regularly, often with no cover charge. Respectful, knowledgeable crowd. It's possible to have a conversation but most opt for listening to the great music by world class performers.

We often do a progressive night where we start out at one restaurant and work our way down to another. This night we had espresso, desert and digestives at the Dirty Dog. The entertainment was excellent, the dessert good and a decent pour on the cognac. Recommended for a stop after dinner for some entertainment.

Having read about this venue for years in DownBeat magazine and knowing the backstory on the owners/management strong support of Detroit jazz music---I was glad to be in the "D" recently to catch a show. Legendary bassist Ralphe Armstrong (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Zappa et al) was performing (he had Aretha's drummer GayeLynn McKinney in the quintet) two sets of great music. Dirty Dog manager seated me at a table close to the band, so I was able to observe the interaction between all of these experienced and talented musicians. Dirty Dog's food was diverse, varied and world-class. This restaurant is in a historic and hip neighborhood. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

This is a really unique place in Grosse Pointe. The music is so good and different artists are scheduled all throughout the year. The food is excellent and the service is efficient and classy. Not that it’s a bad thing but this is not really a place to come to chat. Once the music starts they ask patrons to be respectful of the musicians and not talk——that’s how it should be if you’ve come to see the show. The dining room is very small so you get up close and personal to the musicians and really hear the music!

My family of four ate here in late June 2018. My 16 year old son wanted to hear some live jazz music and this is a great venue for that. The Jazz was great! The featured performer, Randy Napoleon, is a jazz guitarist and was excellent. The service was very good bordering on great. The food, however, could use some work. My filet was over cooked and my younger sons burger was very dry. I would come back; however, I hope they work on the quality of their food.
