Visited here towards the end of our holiday as we knew it would be a little more pricey to a standard meal. Greeted by a lovely guy who welcomed us warmly and showed us to a table next to the balcony overlooking their beautiful garden. The meze is for 2 people but as our son also wished to try the dishes they were very accommodating and helped us decide to have the meze dishes for 3 and then we ordered an additional chicken gyros as a main for my son when our "main lamb dish" came out. Absolutely amazing food, starting with cold dip style dishes with bread the potato salad is to die for. Then quickly after hot meze dishes. After these were finished we had a fairly long wait about 30 minutes until the lamb came out, it may have been that they were busy but I think it was to allow for the experience of a traditional Greek dining event. The lamb was amazing to eat but I was expecting shanks as reviewed by other diners but given large chop style cuts, this may be due to the Covid situation and the decline of trade etc. But the flavour was incredible! Then the frustration, 20 minutes until the dessert course and they even gave my son a dessert (for which they didn't charge) then another 35 minutes passed and still no coffees. It did get to the point where I asked for the bill as it was getting quite late and they rushed over with the drinks, I asked for the bill and another 20 minutes! Aarrggh! But when it came it was a lot less than expected which is always great. You MUST visit here but clear your diary for the rest of the evening! A big thanks to our hosts as the two main guys were fabulous.

The food in this restaurant was excellent and my wife and I couldn't fault it. The owner and all the staff were great and couldn't be fault, nice view and lovely food. We actually went back here twice. The only thing that peeved me slightly was the price of the wine. We were in Piskopiono for 14 day and had 4/5 bottles of Rose wine from the local Spar on the balcony at a cost of 3.99 euros per bottle. The restaurant was selling the exact same bottle at a whopping 18 Euros. That's 450% markup. I know people have got to make money but don't cheat them. With that kind of markup you ain't getting a tip.

We eat at mezzes every time we holiday in Koutouloufari. Usually we eat there on our last night just before catching our flight however this year we ate there on our second last night mostly so we could enjoy the house wine a little more, which is lovely !
We ordered the traditional mezze and it was definitely the most tasty, best quality and best value meal we had during our whole two weeks in what is quite a competitive area for nice restaurants. The quality of the food is excellent and the portion sizes throughout the mezze are great. The potato salad and village sausage are particularly delicious. This year we loved that the final dish can be tweaked any way you like it depending on your presences for different sauces. I much preferred this menu upgrade to how they had it a few years ago. It’s also lovely how dessert and coffees are included on the mezze which is rare amongst other mezzes in the area.
The restaurant as usual was beautiful, clean, I love the design and that they play good music! Alex and his whole team were so friendly and hospitable. We love going back to see them every year. Thank you for another wonderful meal and evening.

This was hands down the worst meal out I have ever had in my life. The service was friendly and welcoming but if they focused on food quality as much as getting people into the restaurant they'd be doing well! Seriously, it was scandalously bad! Gordon Ramsey on kitchen nightmares would have had a field day.
I am seriously considering not wasting my time reading reviews on trip advisor because the people putting good reviews on here about this place CANNOT in any way be foodies, or have any appreciation of good food. It tasted microwaved, not fresh, out of a tin etc. We thought they cant seriously get the ice cream wrong, but that tasted cheap and terrible too! If you like Wetherspoons come here, in fact dont, as that's an insult to Wetherspoons!
When there is so much choice in the village and some really good quality, it's so frustrating to pick such a poor choice.

Excuse me sir, but I think you made a mistake for which restaurant you put your review. You are welcome to come and try our home made specialities and see while your meal is cooked in our open kitchen.

This was our first time trying meze, and whilst we enjoyed the small dishes, it seemed a very expensive way of eating.
Due to it being quieter this year, they never had the spit roast Chicken or Pork, and had replaced it with Gyros. The worst gyros we tried in Crete, and ruined our experience a little. It was both dry and greasy. The rest of the meal was nice, but not somewhere I’d return.

We ate here on our visit to Koutouloufari, the greeter was very friendly and attentive as were the rest of the staff. The restaurant was busy even though everything was winding down due the UK quarantine. The food was very tasty, Hubby had steak in a hot sauce (?Diablo) and I had Stroganoff, the portions were large and very tasty, good quality food. Would definitely visit again

My boyfriend and I stumbled across this restaurant one night and they seemed so friendly so we took a chance on it. We were shown to a beautiful table with an amazing view!! The staff were so helpful in recommending dishes to us and accommodated for my picky vegetarian self!! They made me a gorgeous spaghetti carbonara without the bacon and replaced with peppers and onions! It was amazing!! We went back on our last day for dinner as our flight was really late and I had the exact same. I would also like to say the Pina coladas are outstanding as well as the music they played. The first night we walked in and they were playing Bruce Springsteen and well that’s all I could ask for! We would 100% come back here to eat and drink! Thank you guys!!

Undercooked ‘freezer’ chips & Owner with an attitude!!
Seated at our table at 7.15, ordered 1 x bread and two mains with drinks.
Bread came, swiftly followed by mains before we had barely started.
Ordered souvlaki, which came with chips. Unfortunately chips (freezer chips) were undercooked, which was bought to the attention of the owner.
Yes, it was offered for more chips to be cooked, but as we we didn’t want our meal to get cold we refused.
Despite all of this, not only were we overcharged, the owner didn’t want to know and charged us more than we ordered despite food being of poor quality.
Fourth night here in these amazing villages, first disappointing experience. Give it a miss is my advice!!!

We had the meze for 2 which was very tasty. Bread and dips, a selection of meze, Greek salad, lamb chops and potatoes followed by ice cream and coffee. A great opportunity to try a variety of traditional Greek food. It got busy very quickly! A nice touch was they asked us if we were smokers - as non-smokers it was nice to be placed in a spot where we wouldn't have to breathe in second hand smoke!

Decided for our first meal In Koutouloufari we would give Alex and Christine taverna a try and weren’t disappointed. The taverna looked inviting and had a good menu of traditional Greek food. We shared a Greek salad which was nice enough, then I had a mixed grill which was a lovely mix of tasty meats done on the grill. My wife decided on the moussaka as she loves the dish, she said it was the best moussaka she has ever had and she’s had a few! Well worth a visit when you are in Koutouloufari.

It is very hard when you go on holidays to Koutouloufari to narrow down the restaurants that you decide to visit as they are always lovely but year after year we always return to Mezes the staff and the food you could not fault. I have never had a bad meal and the house wine is so lovely the value for your money is fantastic. I can't wait to return next year. Thank you for everything once again.

One of our favourite meals of the week. Hadn’t been for a few years but Christine recognised us after a few minutes, even remembering that we normally came in a bigger group and where we sat last time. Visited this time just myself, husband and 12 year old daughter.
Husband ordered chicken in pepper sauce, I order the chicken in Diana sauce and our daughter ordered an adults portion of chicken souvlaki.
Wine was delicious, lovely and cold. We had some garlic bread to share while we waited for the mains and it was so nice to get garlic bread without cheese. Food arrived in good time, not too long to wait but not too quick to feel it was pre made unlike a few of the other meals we had elsewhere that week.
All the meals were lovely, Pele the chef (and Christine’s son) really knows his stuff, his sauces are fantastic, so fresh tasting and delicious and both chicken dishes came with really tasty new potatoes and vegetables and our daughters souvlaki was cooked to perfection. Unfortunately our daughter had not been feeling too well all day and couldn’t eat very much. Christine checked back on us to make sure we were enjoying our food and noticed that our daughter wasn’t eating and thought that maybe she wasn’t enjoying her meal and offered to make her another meal on the house as she didn’t want her to go hungry, what a fantastic gesture! We declined explaining that the food was wonderful but she just wasn’t feeling well and just couldn’t eat any more.
The bill was extremely reasonable, you would pay so much more in the UK for such beautiful tasting sauces.
Can’t wait to return next year.

Walked past this place every night and were persuaded by the greeter to finally enter. What a disappointment. Ordered Moussaka and I struggled to eat it. It had the tiniest amount of lamb mince in the dish and it was mostly sauce with a few courgette slices. Would not recommend this place at all.

We ate here twice during our stay which says so much as the choice of restaurants near by is plentiful. A warm welcome awaits and the food was just amazing, we had the meze on our first visit which was a great way to taste many dishes and the meatballs were delicious. On our second visit I had the pork fillet in stroganoff sauce it was perfect. Young Alex you are a talented chef…..This is one to not walk by……

A great smallish restaurant around the centre of Koutouloufari. There was two guys on the front of house who were great, friendly and just fun. We were a group of 5. The place was busy and we booked a table and had a drink. Sat we ordered drinks and checked out the menu. A lot to work through. Basically there a tapas option, min 2 people then a meat option beef, chicken or pork and then a selection of sauces. Certainly there’s lots of other dishes. We’d two schnitzel, a chicken stroganoff, a chicken with a spicy sauce and a superbly cooked steak with pepper sauce all with veg and potatoes. I swapped these for a Greek salad which was lovely. The red and rose wines were very drinkable. Love the place. Others from our group of 17 have been since our visit with rave reviews as well. A great night out.
