I can't visit Takaka without a stop at the Wholemeal Cafe. With its funky interior and great menu choices, it's perfect for lunch. I had the salmon quiche which was delicious and huge. Then a piece of their carrot cake which was moist and very generously sized. It was the best carrot cake I've had in a long time. And... More

I have returned here many times for the great wholesome food, excellent service, wide variety of vegan and gluten free goodies, and the quirky building. It is always a delight. You havent fully experienced golden bay until you have visited the wholemeal cafe.

A family tradition was continued when we went back to Takaka. The old picture theatre has been nicely converted into this lovely place to eat Generous portions all round and the pancakes for the young one had to be finished off by the adults not that we minded. All in all yet another great experience.

Stopped for a coffee and snack. We needed up ordering curly fries and pancakes with bacon and bananas! The pancakes were delicious, the bacon and bananas great and the maple syrup gorgeous! A huge room, friendly staff and we hope to go back and try some of the other homemade food available. The portions were very generous and again the... More

The Wholemeal Cafe is a local institution that I have dined at many times over the last 20+ years. The food is always good, the atmosphere endearing and the staff helpful and chirpy. Recommend to all for a local Takaka experience.

Loved stopping here. Interesting place to look around as there is art on the wall and the food is so nice. We got a salmon salad slider. They had complimentary sauce next to the cutlery that you could add as a side to your slider. Very fresh ingredients and a nice touch I thought. Helpful staff and a popular local... More

PROS - great food and coffee - personable staff - nice cozy atmosphere CONS - no beef burgers! only lamb burgers. I don't like lamb (but that's just me...)

This is standout in Takaka for service, food and coffee. A large room caters for lots of people. We had a quiche and pasty very tasty.
