The restaurant allows BYO so we bought a selection of wines from a local wine merchant and took them along with us to enjoy with the meal. The food was fantastic, each course being quintessentially Italian and cooked to the highest standards. The wines could have easily outshone the foo, but that was not the case at all. After the... For many years now returning from our annual stay in the Engadin,we have lunch in this wonderful restaurant and we have never been disappointed. The pleasant interior, unpretentious, but, in my opinion,a small masterpiece of interior architecture, the well chosen artwork, the beautiful little knife with real horn handle to cut the delicious small salami , the friendly ,civilized staff and... This was a superb place with gracious attentive owner and local yet gourmet choices cooked to order- or slow cooked hours earlier. House red was a reserve ; braseola was extraordinary and the truffle and fungi pasta.. Oh my! We were 6 hearty eaters from various parts of the US. And the place was slick and sophisticated with modern art... More

We were staying on Lake Como and made a day trip to Chiavenna. What a wonderful day we had, most notably for our decision to dine at Al Cenacolo. The setting was beautiful, small and quaint inside and the service was outstanding. There is a €3 cover per person, but it includes a wonderful assortment of fresh breads, cured salami... More

We’d wanted to visit Al Cenacolo for a while after the recommendation in Fred Plotkin’s excellent book “Italy for the gourmet traveller” (high recommended). We finally managed to get there recently for lunch after driving over from Varenna. It was well worth the wait as the food on offer is truly superb. It’s a great place to try out local... More

I'm from Chiavenna and every time I feel like enjoying something really typical from our area, I know where to go. This restaurant is just the best choice you can do. It is simple and discrete, not too much luxury... The menu offered includes all the local specialities, but what it is really special about this place, is that everything... More

Ask for recommendations from the menu and you will be served local specialties with an ambitious and delicious touch. As a good example of this - the recommended wine is the house wine on caraffe, which is definitely not cheap and certainly a really good red wine.
