We went to the Chequers Inn on Sunday after walking 5.5 miles round Bewl Water. What a friendly pub we got a warm welcome and the atmosphere was lovely, we had lunch which was amazing, and the bar staff were lovely. Would definitely return to this wonderful pub

We stopped for lunch on our way back to Tunbridge Wells as I had always heard really good things about the pub. Service was friendly and the beer was good, however, the food was not at all. We had the Cesar salad and Lasagne. The salad was made with Iceberg, not Cos lettuce, and the dressing was not right, possibly... More

We planned to eat lunch in Wadhurst but following a leisurely stroll in Lamberhurst we were tempted by the welcoming look of The Chequers Inn. Our gastronomic instincts served us well. As strangers to a small village Inn it can sometimes be daunting, but no such worries at The Chequers Inn. The staff were warm friendly and attentive. Although the... More

We ate here sitting in the garden . The starter was supposed to be mozzarella cheese with onion and tomatoes and it was not mozzarella-looked more like sliced Gouda. The satay chicken though was lovely. Main course of hake wrapped in Parma ham was ok. Good fish but over cooked Parma ham. we ordered sauté potatoes and they sent new... More

We dropped into The Chequers after a local walk on a sunny Friday lunchtime. The garden where we ate was lovely. Food was good and staff friendly. Just what you want from a traditional English pub.

We have eaten here a few times and can't fault the food. The Chequers Inn is a traditional country pub, no airs and graces, there are tables in the bar, a dining area and large garden with ample tables close to the river. Food is simple but ample in portions and well cooked and presented. I have to say their... More

Visited for lunch after a visit to nearby Scotney Castle. Food was very good typical pub food and excellent value.. It may have been an off day but the beer had all the hallmarks of being not very well kept unfortunately. We ate in the restaurant, but on another occasion would have stayed in the more atmospheric bar or the... More

When it comes to country pubs, The Chequers has got it all! Situated alongside the river in the middle of the picturesque village of Lamberhurst, this pub really is the heart of the community. The inside dates back before the 16th century and has all the character you need. The outside has a charming riverside garden, and for the kids... More

Great location for where we needed to be. Very friendly service / staff. Lovely breakfast. Ok for an overnight stay BUT in need to updating and cleaning. There are some tremendous features to the building that could really do with some TLC.

We called in on the off chance for lunch and as the British weather was being unusually kind we sat in the pub garden next to the river. Although a Saturday it wasn't too busy and we had attentive service from the friendly staff who brought out meals out promptly. The food was excellent, all three of thoroughly enjoyed our... More
