A while back we were at this establishment I have a problem with severe shellfish allergies! Finally I found this place that had a chowder of fish only..no other seafood in it and the fish cakes were awesome! Afterwards I. travelled to St John's NFLD...on the main George Street and most of the restaurants I checked out only served a chowder with a mixture of fish and other seafood. My wife being from Barbados has often made fish cakes at home but on the road finally we found this awesome establishment that can cater to my needs. Well done folks!!!More

We were travelling in Cape Breton last week for a foliage trip. We specifically planned to go out to Meat Cove not to stay at the camp ground but just for the trip out there. It’s a beautiful ride and if you have the proper...vehicle, you should do it! We checked on the dates the Chowder Hut was opened and their ads state that they will close on October 15th. NOT SO! We were there on the 10th and there was a “closed for the season” sign on the place. I don’t know how the food is when the place is opened so I can’t speak to that. BUT if you state in your publicity that you are opened from May ??? To October 15th for heaven’s sake don’t close before that without telling people. It isn’t as if there is a McDonald’s around every corner and people get hungry!More

Stayed here on the last night of the season. Arrived shortly after closing but Justin accommodated me. It was a long day on the motorcycle. The cabin was perfect and I had a comfortable night's sleep on top of the cliff listening to the waves...crash into the rocks below. To add to my evening, the kitchen had closed but they quickly put together a scallop and chips supper for me. I was so grateful. Perfect end of one day and start to the next day, eating breakfast on the porch of the cabin facing the sunrise.More

I had such a wonderful stay at this campground! I opted to stay in one of the basic cabins and really loved having my dinner and breakfast on the small deck. Everything is so well maintained and extremely clean! The cabin was spotless when I...checked in and the washrooms and showers are lovely and well maintained! I though about just staying in Meat Cove forever! Stay here- you won’t be disappointed!More

It was stormy when we got in so we had our pick of tent sites but with the gorgeous views, newly renovated bathrooms & hot showers we would have been happy just about anywhere along this camp ground. Absolutely gorgeous views, well worth traveling along...the rougher roadMore

We came in for some chowder after walking the Meat Cove beach. Delicious chowder, and they also directed us to a close-by hike for some great views of Meat Cove.

We arrived at Meat Cove late in the afternoon and were initially told that there were no more campsites left, but they managed to squeeze us and our little tent in at "the last" spot left - a great little spot, actually, on the cliff...near the bushes, with a great view of the ocean. We ate dinner at the restaurant (fish cakes with beans and slaw/fish sandwich with fries) and enjoyed it very much. The serving staff were very helpful and friendly. The bathrooms had recently been renovated and they were very clean, plenty of hot water, and still smelling like the wood that they were built from. This really is a slice of paradise. Best views off the Cabot Trail. Very relaxing, so much so that we blew off our second travel day and just hung out, spending a second night there. The restaurant was closed the second day, but there is a small supermarket about 8 km away. There are no hookups for RVs, so come self-sufficient. The hiking trail was neat and provided a great view of the coastline and the campground itself. Definitely worth a visit or an overnight.More

Even though, we have arrived past 3pm, we manage to get the last tenting spot- it was nested on the edge of the cliff and a bushes, which was perfect. The camping ground has wi-fi, which surprising worked well, considering how remote the place is....We also had an access to brand new showers, with hot water. After a long day, we could not ask for more. Justin, the manager, was very nice and helpful. There are amazing hikes around, especially the Mountain Hike, worth to climb! It was definitely the most beautiful located camping ground I've ever been to. The downside was that the restaurant was closed for 2 days, but oh well, it happens.More

Who knew you could get fantastic oysters at a campground? Our sea kayak tour guide knew, that's who! We were sent here after our adventure on the ocean and were not disappointed. So yummy!

Tenting is first come, first served. They do have small chalets that require reservation. We rented and had no problem finding a site without calling ahead. It’s worth a shot - the views are heavenly!
