Good wholesome food, great price. Friendly people. Good variety particularly if you are a meat eater.

The menu here is extensive - something for every taste. The seafood is great. Lovely whitebait was perfectly cooked.Saganaki is also a perfect starter. The white house wine is very good - balance of fruity and not sweet either.Ghiouvechi of veal was melt in your mouth slow cooked and very tasty. And the raki at the end will send you... More

You can tell a good Taverna by the number of locals who use it and by how busy it is. I noticed this year that 3 bars had closed down in Amoudara since our last visit so business must be difficult in the current financial climate - yet Uncle George's was very busy most evenings and lunch times. Despite this... More

Right away we can understand why this place is recommended. 6 of us visited, 4 adults and 2 kids (2&4). We heard 2 tables that were clearly regular guests, 1 leaving saying see you tomorrow and other couple "the usual table please" so clearly lots of people very happy. We had calamari and snails to start. Mains ranged from veal,... More

Came across this family run taverna in Amadora whilst staying at nearby hotel. What a lovely welcome! Kids made to feel special and menu fully explained. My husband asked the chef to choose his meal and said it was the best lamb he'd ever had. The children lived their stuffed beef - really delicious. We were given freshly made bread... More

We chose a variety of starters to share as we weren't sure what we'd like. This was a good strategy. The saganaki (fried cheese) was gorgeous. We were also offered an extra plate of aubergine salad that was delicious and a spicy cheese dish, that was surprisingly spicy for Greek food. We were a party of 7 people and accommodated... More

We are currently staying on the island and our family of 5 had a meal at Uncle Georges the night before last. We had seen Uncle George recommend on Trip Advsor so as we passed by we had a look at the extensive menu. A couple already eating, told us to look no further, they were having the best meal... More

Very good traditional family-run tavern. Fine food which is very fresh and beautifully cooked - the best I have had in Crete. Well worth a visit and the family who run it are very friendly - even though they are rushed off their feet as it is so popular. Loved it. Will definitely go back again.
