Excellent seafood restaurant with a magnificent scenic view. You get tons for your money, the price is not high compared to the quality of food. My husband and I celebrated a wedding anniversary here this year and watched the sun go down over the mountain...Kirkjufell and shimmer on the sea.More

We found the recommendation in our B&B (btw Guesthouse 43, excellent!). Bjargarsteinn is a lovely restaurant in a Beautiful old house with great food and an excellent service! Try the lamb carpaccio and the fresh fish of the day, delicious! And visit the upper floor...at the end, this was a house before being a restaurant!More

We had great food, great view, wonderful servant and a nice old (new) house. Even we had to wait for an hour to get a table and the dinner took almost three hours we were very satisfied. It’s amazing in a small fishing village in...Snæfellsnes with a few hundreds inhabitants to find such a good restaurant. I recommend fish and the fish soup.More

Tried this restaurant due to excellent reviews and immediately struck by the great view and simple and classy decor. Prompt attention from a sweet knowledgeable server. Great wine list including a wonderful Amarone. Nightly specials included fresh white fish and red fish. One other party...member had seafood soup with scallops. All absolutely delicious. A wonderful evening by all. A surprising find in this location. A definite place to return and one you should visit when in the area.More

We absolutely LOVED this restaurant! It is spotless and absolutely adorable. Someone here is very skilled by the hand crocheted towels and “basket” in the restroom - also the window toppers. Our server was very pleasant. The food is very good. We had the fish...soup as a starter - very hearty. Then the lamb shank and fish of the day (flounder) with the barley (so good). Highly recommend!More

I was in Iceland with a group of friends (arranged via Encore+, a top-notch M.I.C.E) for 7 days visiting south and western part of the island. Bjargarsteinn mathus- House of food in front of the Kirkjufell Mountain in Grundarfjorour was the best meal I have...in Iceland. I usually like to eat uncooked raw fish (ie, sashimi). However, the cooked salmon they serve was surprisingly delicious. On top of that, the restaurant is located in front of the beautiful Kirkjufell Mountain. Our group top notch photograph from 281Production took a very beautiful view of the mountain via the restaurant wineglass. This restaurant is really a hidden treasure in West part of Iceland.More

Terrible service especially the one claim that she speaks English well. They served like fast food restaurant, clean up the table so quick and urge customer to pay

Having read a lot of positive comments, we decided to try this restaurant and we were totally impressed. It’s one of the best meals we had in our 17-day trip in Iceland. Homey atmosphere with country style decor. Amazing view of Kirkjufell Mountain through the...windows. Friendly servers with big smiles. Our waitress took time to talk to us about our trip and where we came from – really made us feel at home. Love the look of the menu – it’s handwritten and filled with sketches (see my photos). The upper level of the building has exhibits of antique furniture; just beware of the narrow steep staircase when you go up and down. The food was outstanding – fresh, tasty, generous portion, nicely presented. We’ve never had a seafood soup with so many ingredients in it – it’s a meal on its own. The lamb loin was juicy and tender. Icelandic lamb is the best in the world with a mild and delicate flavour. The scallop appetizer was delicious. The catch of the day was pan fried Icelandic Red Fish with a mild, sweet flavour and a medium-firm texture. We were both very full after the main course but made room to share the chocolate mousse – it was smooth and rich but not too sweet. The bill came to ISK 16,990 (C$180) including a beer, coke and 2 coffee. Reservation strongly recommended. Ask for a table by the window.More

Went here twice. First time was so good we had to come back the next night. The fish soup is amazing. Very hearty with lots of scallops, shrimp and fish - was surprised how much meat was in it. Main course of lamb was amazing...and presentation was beautiful. The skyr dessert was really good. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it.More
