Superb fish

Ate here last night. We shared the calamari , and would say it’s the best we have had ever, calamari seems to be so different wherever you go, it can be done so badly or perfectly cooked , this was perfectly cooked. The batter was light and not greasy, the calamari was soft and not chewy, excellent. Both also chose the shrimp pasta , again excellent, flavoursome pasta and sauce , perfect shrimps , heads and tails pulled away easily . Staff lovely and attentive but not in your face , the restaurant is well presented and modern in decor, the toilets on same level, no steps to climb, and were clean, good COVID measures in place too. The chefs were friendly and acknowledged us on leaving, as we did them , we have booked agin on Wednesday to try the swordfish , my favourite.

The freshest and best seafood we've eaten

We've eaten here twice on our holiday (the first at the beginning and we just had to come here on our last night as it was so good), and this is the freshest seafood we have eaten (both of us have eaten in many seafood restaurants). We had the seafood mix for two and it was properly fresh and cooked beautifully, especially the prawns which were juicy and sweet and the sea bass - which is my absolute favourite of all fish - was amazingly well done. We should also give a special mention to the cheesecake dessert for being bloomin' delicious! The hospitality and service from all the staff and owners is second to none and completely genuine. This restaurant for us marks the difference between tourist trap produce (of which there are many in the area) and what you expect from a genuine fresh fish restaurant. Thank you so much for making our last night so special to us!

Amazing food !

We were there yesterday evening. The restaurant was fully booked but we really wanted to give it a try since we were in town and saw the good reviews. We ordered zucchini croquettes, steamed mussels as a starter then fried garlic shrimp and lobster as our main. It took some time since there was no electrecity anymore at some point but the restaurant quickly reacted and connected some generators and went on ! I really appreciated the kindness of each server and cook Also, the cake was amazing ! Thank you again !

Good location, good fish, disappointing grilled octopus.

Like all sea side fish restaurants in this street: great location, tables on the waterside. Everything that we ordered was fine, including the sea bass and small fried fish starter, except the grilled octopus main course, which was burnt on the ends and rubbery everywhere else. Left it untouched. We do better, less chewy octopus at home, which was a bummer on an otherwise fine meal. Ok prices, and location make up for a lot. Service was quick and friendly as well.

FANTASTIC FOOD

We were here last week and loved this place. Lovely atmosphere overlooking harbour watching the boats coming in and out as your eating. And the food is tasty well cooked we had the fish one night was so impressed we went back and had a steak which was cooked to perfection and cut like butter everything is well presented by friendly staff WELL WORTHY OF A VISIT

Seafood Special

We were lucky enough to visit twice on our stay in Kos Town and it’s usually my”Go To” restaurant when we want fish/seafood. Normally we find the second visit is not as good as the first but this was the opposite. Between our family of 6 and a half we had salmon shrimp pasta mussels saganaki and shrimp saganaki along with nice house white wine and cold Fix beer. Everything we all had was really well presented and arrived at the table good time . I asked for my saganaki to be spicy and it was perfect in fact it was the tastiest shrimp saganaki I’ve ever had. The restaurant is well situated and professional and relaxing. There are lots of fresh fish on display to choose from as well. Also very reasonably priced. Thanks to everyone at the Akgyra and compliments to the Chefs

How this is not number 1 in Kos is beyond me - amazing restaurant

How this is not the number 1 restaurant in Kos on trip adviser is beyond me. Both my girlfriend and I are massive foodies and have eaten all over the world at some of the best restaurants. The fish here was the best I have ever had and beats all the top fish restaurants I have ever eaten in. The family who run the restaurant are lovely and gave us an amazing experience with good wine recommendations and first class service. Highly recommend the fish platter if you go which was unbelievable. As a part of the platter we had the freshest and best tuna and tuna belly. It was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and melted in our mouths. In high season make sure you book in advance and request a sea front table. Will go again when we go back to Kos! Mark

What a night.

What a night. Fabulous meal, service and setting. We were sat right next to the sea and we had a mixed fish platter for two. It was beautiful. We had mussels and Greek salad and then prawns, sea bass and calamari washed down by cold crisp white wine. Could not fault it. Beautiful

Very poor a let down

The scenery sat on the beach is amazing and that’s where it ends. Staff were ok but not really interested in helping with choices or listening to your order. They were too busy moving onto the next table. Warm bread in woven hessian was a great start with olive tapenade and that is where it ended. Muscles tasted nice but no bread no bowl provided to wash hands in. No clean serviettes or cutlery provided. Tuna and accompaniments was tasteless and cold I couldn’t eat it. The fries I ordered with the main meal were served as a starter and then taken away to serve the main without asking if we still required them. The halloumi was ok but cold The pork chop was huge but dry and tasteless. When the waiter asked if we enjoyed it the reply was no it was tasteless and cold. There was no feedback he just walked away !! The worst yet the most expensive meal we’ve had in two weeks.

AVOID THIS PLACE, DONT BE FOOLED BY THE PICTURES

Went here for a birthday meal, don’t be fooled by the pictures it is directly next to a quarry port which had several industrial large ferries coming and going throughout the evening. There were several beggars walking through asking for money which I found strange that the restaurant didn’t do anything about it considering one of the beggars came and touched our food and walked away with it whilst on my plate- disgusting. I can appreciate this is a family run business but the service let them down too, the son of the owner was well out of his depth and the daughter was running around trying to pick up the pieces, food looks great on plate but my partner today has SEAFOOD POISINING after last night. A tourist trap, please avoid this place at all costs

We walked in without a booking. We had gone looking for another restaurant in the same street recommended in a magazine. When we got there they were busy but couldn't be bothered to see if they could fit us in We went into Angkyra and the lady was very obliging. They offered us two tables to choose ; one being on the sand. We found the food delicious The prawn linguine was great as were the mushrooms in the appetizers Price was reasonable. And the service was fine considering how busy they were Have a go

Great spot in Kos Town

Gorgeous location, greek decor, just round the corner from Kos town harbour. We had a light lunch (scallops were delicious, seafood spaghetti too) but everything was cooked to perfection. Top tip - ask them to order you a cab if you are leaving straight after and avoid the horrendous queues at the cab rank.

Fantastic as always

Have been to Agkyra many times over the years and each time the food is fantastic. Family run taverna with delicious food. Dined there on our first and last night of the holiday. The tuna fillet and grilled vegetables were cooked to perfection. Thank you Elion and family. 🧡

Best tuna ever!

After reading recommendation on numerous blogs and travel sites we decided to come to eat here. We had tuna fillet which was great and from 3 different parts of the fish, grilled vegetables was also great. My fiance ordered mussels saganaki and he was in love with the dish. House rose wine was also very tasty! 5 stars for everything: the food, service and the view on the sea!

Best Seafood in Kos

If your looking for a top class seafood restaurant then look no further. So much choice and the fish is cooked to perfection. Me and my partner ended up here twice in 2 days it was that good 🤩. Highly recommend the mussels, octopus croquettes, salmon fillet and calamari!! Make sure you go to this place hungry - we thought the portion sizes were mega. Waitress is lovely and very attentive.
