Nice restaurant in an historic building in an authentic area in old Macau. The food was very good and the staff was friendly. The ambiance was lively and just like Portugal.

Amazing food in an authentic environment. The host Ricardo, and has attentive staff, make you feel like family. The restaurant offers a glimpse into historic Portuguese Macao. I hope to be back again very soon!

I had high expectations of Albergue 1601, from its online presence. The staff and the food lived up to my expectations. From greeting us and making us feel comfortable, to serving up good Portuguese food, the people behind Albergue worked together to showcase their best...offerings. We enjoyed the seafood rice, bacalhau (salted cod) fritters, Portuguese green soup (caldo verde), sawdust pudding and poached pear in port wine. Thank you very much for the excellent service from Pedro, Ella, Jerome and colleagues. Special thanks to two lovely and thoughtful young ladies, Silvia and Helen, who went out of their way to help two out-of-town Singaporean visitors to experience the beautiful hospitality of the Macanese people. They make Macau look good!More

What a great place we loved it we went twice during our last visit to Macau! Food is good it’s not exceptional but decent and authentic. Wines are reasonably priced and staff is super attentive and goes all the way! Highly recommend but don’t have...to high expectations! We will certainly be back when we visit Macau again.More

Albergue 1601 is a beautifully situated Portuguese restaurant in the St. Lazarus District. Ten years ago this was one of our favourite little restaurants in Macau but a run of poor meals here ended that around 7-8 years ago. I stopped by for lunch recently...having not eaten here in a long time and felt just ok about the meal experience this time around. They seem to be no longer seating patrons outside these days. However, the interior of the restaurant is lovely, very charming use of the old property. Menu is rather typical Portuguese affair and service is very friendly. On the occasion, I tried their baked duck rice that was fairly pricey at MOP188. The dish was a large serving, suitable for a group order. It is too much for one person to finish. There was a fair amount of duck but it was a bit too dry and chewy. The rice wasn't seasoned much and quite dry from the bake as well. Better duck rice dishes in Macau are a tad bit oily from baking in duck fat which gives the dish its special flavour. I had to add salt and pepper to this serving to give it some flavour. As such, while better than what was served at our last couple of meals here many years ago, this was still a below average Arroz de Pato for what you can find at our better Portuguese restaurants here in Macau. Overall, Albergue 1601 continues to be a very beautiful restaurant with lovely atmosphere and environs. I'm still not convinced about their food considering the fairly high prices charged. Just something to bare in mind for those who decide to dine here.More

Unique restaurant in Macao where you'll dive deep in the portuguese culture, gastronomy and where you can almost feel you are actually in Portugal. Food is exceptional and 100% authentic, the building, architecture, artwork, antiques, music all match creating a fantastic atmosphere where everywhere is an...amazing and unique picturesque scenery. The Chef is Portugese and well knowed and recognized, staff is extremely polite and well trained, is the kind of place you want to comeback and always recommend. I loved it and highly recommend, trust me I'm a foodie and Portuguese!🤣 You should also try - from the same group - "Portucau" and "3Sardines", you will find there also the authenticc portuguese food and great atmosphere.More

I choose the Albergue 1601 which is located at St. Lazarus Quarter, one of the best preserved historical neighbourhoods in Macau, for my friends' birthday celebration. Food and service were great. Thanks for Head Chef Pedro Almeida who made our table so special than just...a HBD celebration. And Jay Jay who made our celebration most memorable than ever.. By the way, I would like to recommend Bacalhau cake ; a smooth and crispy fish cake and you can simply enjoy and start with . Octopus salad - one of my favourite ; it is very sassy and refreshing dish . Seafood rice ; a rich and tasty rice soup that you must try . Last but not least the traditional Macanese dessert - " Serradura " a sawdust pudding ; melting in the mouth like a cloud - yummy !! I will definitely back to the restaurant again ...More

Albergue 1601 is quaint little Portuguese restaurant located inside a historical building in Macau with a history dated as far back as 450 years This restaurant is beautifully decorated with all things Portuguese and I must say it was a pleasure to dine in this...cozy restaurant that serves authentic Portuguese cuisine. Atmosphere was welcoming and service was excellent. As recommended by Executive Chef Pedro, we ordered the Salada de Polvo - Octopus Salad, Chouriço Assado - Grilled red wine sausage, Frango de Churrasco - Piri Piri Grilled Chicken, Bacalhau à Brás- Cod fish scrambled with eggs, Arroz de Marisco - Portuguese Seafood Stewed Rice and Batata Frita Pala Pala - Homemade chips Wow, the octopus salad was fresh and zesty as it is colorful. The grilled sausage was indeed one of the best grilled chorizo I have ever had; fragrant and not salty like other chorizo. The Piri Piri Chicken (half chicken) was grilled to perfection and accompanied by homemade chips that was surprisingly light and crunchy. The chicken was so good that we had to place a second order of chicken and additional side order of chips. The bacalhau is as expected but the Seafood stewed rice was truly scrumptious with the seafood flavor bursting in your mouth with very spoonful of rice. Really yummy. For desserts, we had the pineapple cake that was served with ice cream and of course the Serradura sawdust ice cream that is so creamy and delicious. The pineapple cake was superb when eaten together with ice cream. Great recommendations from Chef Pedro. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience.More

The restaurant is located in the nice small patio in the historical building in the typical Portuguese district so both, the restaurant and the area, would give you the feeling of the real Portugal. It’s not cheap but the food and port-wine we had was...really good. I think I hadn’t had so delicious bacalau (cod) in Portugal. So as the title says the Portuguese food here was better then in Portugal indeed. And of course it worth to pay extra for the atmosphereMore

Many choice of Portuguese restaurants in Macao and we chose to lunch here because of tripadvisor. We were so lucky getting a table without reservation (while guests after us didn’t). Piri-Piri Grilled Chicken was worth to wait. It’s soft, tender and full of favor. It’s...well – seasoning and well-cooked without any sauces. Tomato Rice Stew and Serradura all were terrific. Still miss the grilled chicken. Will definitely come backMore

Albergue1601 is a beautifully appointed restaurant in a courtyard in St Lazarus, an historical neighbourhood highly evocative of the alleyways of Lisbon. The food is traditional Portuguese. Our greeting upon arrival could not have been warmer. We were made feel special as we were shown...to our tables. My chicken Peri Peri stole the show.Their version of bacalhaua ( in scambled eggs) was also devine. We enjoyed the sangria and memories of a recent trip to Lisbon came flooding back when I finished the meal with a glass of the portuguese liqueur Ginja.More
