This is our much used local. The food is good and consistent, home cooked 'pub grub' with daily specials. The selection of local beers is also very good. It can get busy inside and hard to get a table at short notice, but this just reflects its popularity with locals. However there are outside areas where it is great to... More

6 of us went to this public house for the first time in just over 12 months. The place still has it's own rustic charm, still has a great selection of world wide bottled beers, its collection of international bank notes. We all enjoyed our lunches which were all made on site. The meals did not leave you feeling hungry... More

We are really pleased with your review, thank you. Glad you think we haven't changed much, if at all, because that's what we are trying to keep hold of. Sorry you felt the choice was limited, it may have been we had sold out of a few items because we generally have a similar spread every day. Hope to see... More

Venue was fullish, but car-park is large enough to cope. Pub itself is very rustic with wooden bench seats etc , not the most comfortable place to sit . Menu was good and standard prices (when bread is served with the meal its an inch thick , but nice ) 6 off us ate different meals and everyone was happy... More

The stone built exterior has the wow factor to start with! and if you like old you will not be disappointed. The inside of this pub was as if time stood still.. with its log fire burning. Even though it was June, it does have the cold factor as the brick work is so cold and thick. So do bring... More

As always our visit to this great pub has been a wonderful experience. The Lamb sag curry was delicious and my son said he would have the fish casserole every time. Staff were friendly and welcoming and accommodating as we booked late for a table of six. Thank you.

Proper pub with a great atmosphere and beers. The roast beef was just right(slightly pink), the roasties, Yorkshire puds, red cabbage, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower cheese were all home cooked and tasty too. Great value, as well, lunch for the 4 of us, a couple of rounds of drinks and 2 puddings for under £50. Definitely need to book though!

Having just moved to the area, this was our first meal at this delightful pub and it certainly won't be the last. Good food (the roast potatoes were perfect!), fantastic atmosphere and a superb selection of ales & ciders - we look forward to many more visits.

Last minute booking, & arrived Sunday arvo 16.45, running a little late with a party of 10. Couldn't have been more hospitable and accommodating, considering closing food at 17.00. Landlord & chef were great. 8 lamb roasts, vegetable Wellington, Thai fish cakes and a ploughmans later. Food was plentiful, hot, well cooked and tasty. If you're after a nice ale,... More

Having spent the morning at the nearby National Trust property at Lytes Cary I did a quick web search for a local pub for some lunch. Fortunately The Halfway House popped up and we decided to give it a go. What a GREAT find! Halfway between Langport and Somerton we were delighted with the choice. They keep an impressive selection... More

It's simple and rustic, great cider and ale selection and huge food portions. Not many places where you can get a decent main meal and a drink for under £10. Beer garden, dogs welcome.
