Definitely try it, great place

6th Aug-23. Totally amazing, 10/10 hands down. Our Mediterranean trip just kept getting better finding these places to eat spontaneously. If you’re in Corfu, you won’t go hungry that’s for sure but if you pass this gem, I recommend you try it, you won’t be disappointed. The food, service and proper Corfu atmosphere.

The good, the bad and the downright ugly

The good: Have given this restaurant 4 stars because the food was of a good quality. My fillet steak with pepper sauce good, but so it should be at €28. My wife had the lamb shank, which to be fair was reasonably priced at €17. Service fine, and the waiter even brought my wife some roast potatoes because she did not like the couscous. The bad: When we asked for house wine we were told they had run out so the cheapest on the wine list was €24. Bit naughty this, if you run out of house wine you should offer what is available as a house wine at a realistic price. The ugly: Water at a price of 4€ ! Come on Rex, you should change your name to T Rex for that rip. Anyway, to summarize, enjoyed the meal, but personally we wouldn't return because prices high for an average restaurant and just got that slight TRex feeling when paying bill over 60€ even without water and only 2 meals. Please don't let this review stop you going if you like and it is good food in a pleasant setting. It's your choice of course. Eddie n Christina

A New Year, A New Menu

The Rex has always provided good quality dishes with a cosy atmosphere and good service. It was a little bit up-market from the other restaurants in the Liston area but was always reasonably priced for the area. None of this has changed. The new menu has arrived with some delicious additions and artistic presentation. At this lunchtime visit, we shared the cheese stuffed donuts for a starter. There was also a selection of breads with olive oil to snack on. My main course was the duck leg on chicory with beetroot. It was well cooked and very tasty. We tried the house wine - a litre of red between us two! Needless to say, we were very happy when we left. This was another good meal at the Rex. I'm sure we will have more in the future.

This was the best restaurant we ate at during our 10-day trip to Corfu, so much so that we ate here twice. The waiting staff are very friendly, polite and professional, wearing their face coverings properly and extremely attentive (but not overly so). The food was also outstanding, large starters and excellent flavours, a varied menu and nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. We have eaten at so many places all over the island and without a shadow of a doubt, this was the best quality ingredients executed to perfection. Also some of the other reviews have had me in stitches, the one about the octopus in particular.... they have surely never had it before if they expect it to be soft!! The review mentioning the birds outside, well words fail me...... anyway, thank you to the manager/owner who really knows how to run a quality restaurant and make the guests feel welcome.

Go for Rex

We walked onto Rex basically on instinct. A nice quiet side street. Other patrons eating there. A really helpful waiter explaining about the gluten free options. And.. We were not disappointed. OK its a bit expensive but go with the waiter's suggestions and you won't be sorry. I had the Cod Bianca, you could taste the sea coming through the garlic sauce. Just exquisite. My wife ordered the lamb skewer but had to send it back because it was too tough. The waiter recommended the stuffed pork tender loin in a reduced balsamic and fruit sauce. This was simply delicious. The service is lovely too. So if you feel like splurging a bit and you need non gluten options Rex is it.

Rex is an old establishment in Corfu town just 1 street behind the main square. We had lunch late on Sunday noon and the restaurant was very quiet. Other times probably you need a reservation. Service was good and the food tasty an portions were above average. It is local cuisine with a touch. Prices are not low but reasonable for this type of restaurant.

I really wanted to love this restaurant. Took family there on the basis that it is supposed to be a classic and that the guidebooks all say it the place to go if you are looking for the traditional Corfiot dishes and stews (not at all easy to find surprisingly in Corfu, at least if you want a good example). However, although I didn’t want to admit it in front of everyone, I was not impressed. The restaurant is a terrific location, has a lovely terrace on the street and it looks like a classic all round. I could not fault the staff either, they were friendly and attentive. But the cuisine was unconvincing. Everything looked like it was done to a very specific formula and it was all far too fancy and elaborate, but without excellence. When you see more than one dish having the same fancy sauce splashed on it you get the drift. When you get some octopus that is presented in an incredibly fancy way but tastes of nothing much and whose texture was flabby, you get the drift. Really they simply need to bring in a new chef to serve up classic Corfiot dishes once again and the restaurant should then return to its former brilliance. I’d also make sure that white wine is properly chilled if you serving it to customers on a professional basis. Probably better to find somewhere else for now until the chef is changed and the restaurant’s former culinary glory is restored.

Terrible seafood

We visited Restaurant Rex yesterday and we were very disappointed. Octopus was tough to eat and rubbery. The portion for 22 eur was not enough even for a kid. We ordered also black risotto with no taste and too much lemon above. Slow coocked lamb was ok. We didn’t demand a bill at the end but waiter wanted us to leave and brought it to the table. We paid 190 eur for dinner for 4 person, 3 kids, including one bottle of local wine. Ambient and place is nice but sea food is really terrible.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to write your review, however we would like to point out that we find your review quite harsh. We are unable to understand why you didn't express your complaints while your were on site. We are always more than happy to meet our clients demands as long as they are within reasonable range. Lastly we would like to stand on the octopus portion size that you mentioned and the fact that it is not adequate for a kid. Let us point out that the octopus portion is 300gr which we believe is more than enough even for an adult. Again thank you for your time to write your review.

Best ever!

Well what can I say, happened past this place earlier and booked, definably advisable! Superb people and the food best we've eaten on the Island. Couldn't decide between the Sifrito or pork cheeks, so after I ordered the cheeks, the owner gave some of the Sifrito on the condition I decided what was the best. So there's the challenge....you have to decide which is better as they're both stunning! My partner had the Chicken Blaze and it was also superb - will definitely come back, the service was was welcoming and genuine

Delicious food

We stumbled across this restaurant on our first night in Corfu and the food was delicious! I had the black ink risotto with cuttlefish and it was amazing and so well presented. My only negative was that when we asked for more information on the deserts i.e the lemon tart rex style, the waitress was unable to expand. Luckily we enjoyed it anyway!

Visited this restaurant on a recommendation from a lccal lad working near our hotel Have to say one of the best dining experiences when on holiday anywhere in world. Food is a twist on traditional Greek and is superb..Service was smooth efficient and could not fault anything Went back for our last evening and would definitely recommend highly as also reasonably priced for such high quality

We went here for dinner one night and were honestly disappointed. The location is nice and the food tastes good but the service was disappointing. We were first of all seated in the corner of the restaurant, even though we saw that there was an empty table for two at the front. We don’t know why they seated us like this and at this point we should have left for another restaurant. When we asked the waitress if we could order drinks and food at the same time she told us that she could only take our drink order for now and come back later for the food. We thought that this was weird but accepted it. After she served the drinks she was long gone. We waited and waited to order and no one came, when we tried to grab someone’s attention they were too far away to see us so at last my boyfriend decided to walk up to a waiter and say that we were ready to order. After finishing the food we asked the waitress for the bill and once again we waited and waited and waited and no one came. My boyfriend had to once again walk up to someone working there and ask to pay. Observing the couple seated beside us, it seems like they were experiencing the same thing. The waitress seemed apologetic when we were leaving so I don’t know if they were understaffed or if this kind of service is common in this restaurant but we were unfortunately left unimpressed. There’s lots of great restaurants in Corfu that offers both great food and service and I would therefor not revisit this restaurant.

Fabulous Evening

Having been in Corfu for almost a week we had almost given up hope of getting a decent dinner. So far this week the best dinner we have had by far was in an Indian restaurant which does burly say a lot for Greek food. Tonight we went into Corfu town hoping that the quality there would be better. We chose the Tex because it looked inviting and was busy. We were not disappointed the service was excellent and directed by the Maitre De the staff knew exactly what to do and when to do it. The food itself was superb exactly as described on the menu and of excellent quality. We have one night left in Corfu and will be returning to The Rex tomorrow as I don’t think we could find better

We came here without a reservation or planning and were pleasantly surprised. Being new to the island we also noticed many British and Russians also eating here. The service was very good, food was fine without complaint. Prices range depending on what you require. The wine was fine. I believe we will be coming back frequently.

We came across Rex without knowing it's reputation...

It was a great find! The location is fantastic, with plenty of outdoor seating so you can soak up the atmosphere of the evening. The food was faultless, particularly the pork cheeks, which were so tender and cooked to perfection. Had we have been hungrier, we certainly would've ordered more food! The service has been marked down as we did unfortunately feel less welcome than the table next to us e.g., fobbed off when asking for a wine pairing, yet same waiter happily went through menu with table next to us. Nonetheless, the service was not terrible and other staff members such as the gentleman who greeted and seated us were great. The food was our main interest, which did not disappoint and made for a memorable meal.
