Very nice old English pub. Great & good food. Good atmosphere and service. Small back "garden", but w jazzband for local fundraising one ignored the carpark feeling and enjoyed the atmosphere. Returning customer 👍😋

Excellent choice of Real Ales and good wine. Very friendly and hard working bar staff. Good menu. Plenty of choice. My only complaint is that having chosen the smoked haddock bake and having tables that ordered after use being served, we asked whether we had been forgotten. Oh the haddock bake will take 30 minutes. It would be useful if... More

The lunch menu was not extensive, but had enough to choose from. Food was delicious and the dessert (I had syrup sponge with custard) was to die for. Service wasn't bad either. Overall, a very nice lunch.

The food at The Black Bear always impressed...even if we call in for a simple lunch we leave having been thoroughly satisfied with taste buds totally tantalised.Service first class and atmosphere like a good old pub should be! Definitely worth a visit anytime!

A pub with an interesting history. And very cosy! One of the most memorable i Britain (and I have been there uncountable times!) We had a splendid lunch, excellent service by very friendly barmaids, and shared several pints of perfect local beers. Don't miss it!!!

Visited on a very wet Monday. The staff were welcoming and the service was good. The lunch menu is interesting with some more unusual choices. Don't be fooled into thinking a sandwich is a light bite, it is the size of a normal main course but it was delicious. My son had the chicken on a bed of buttered courgettes... More

Popped in for food on our way back from Chester. The venue is quirky and quaint, keeping features of the original building and adding a vintage feel. The staff very friendly, helping us to choice a suitable beer by offering samples. The food was out of this world and Serbs very quickly.... So tasty! Prices are good for want you... More

Looking for a restaurant to eat in Whitchurch on a Monday night was never going to end well, but the Black Bear suited our needs perfectly. Great selection of real Ales on the pumps. Food wise, portions were very generous, I had the mushroom soup, to be honest I could have stopped there, but then I thought what the heck... More

After a morning at the auctions it's a treat to eat at this local hostelry. The lunch menu offers something for everyone's taste. Our scampi arrived hot and accompanied with a rocket salad and rustic fries . Staff are always friendly, we plan to visit again soon.
