First the waiting staff was not happy for us to take different table to sit as the one given to us could barely fit 2 cups and a plate. Next whilst taking the order the staff member was not polite and pushy about our choice...of food. There were lot of assumptions and presumptions in his tone and he confirmed the order angrily. Next he missed the starter ordered and gave my partner food first and brought my beef stew after 20 minutes. It was clearly conveyed to him to bring food together not one after another and more so after 25 minutes. The stew itself was luke warm and did not taste like the extremely good and healthy belarussian cuisine I'm used to. I could barely finish half the stew and partner was not pleased with the Draniki that had salmon that was barely cooked. Come on guys raise the standards and the service !More

We had decided on an early dinner in Karchma. It was opposite the Neman department store, another brick-vaulted place but with less of the appeal of the Beer Restaurant. The dining areas were small and undistinguished. Nor was the food any more than average; I...ordered draniki, the local potato pancakes, with caviar, but the roe was off and I had to make do with strips of salmon which might have been very lightly smoked. All right, but once again I decided that I had done better in the potato pancake stakes elsewhere in Eastern Europe. My wife had carp and chips; very bony, and why serve a dish like that on a board and not a plate? We drank beer or wine. The service was fair enough, but when our guidebook described this place as classy and tasteful it was going over the top.More

This is a place that's probably not affordable for people from Belarus and aimed at tourists. Menu is in English and offers a large variety of options. Food was yummy, all the way. Still I give only 3 stars because somehow the staff decided to...give me a table at the very end of the restaurant, while many other (unreserved) place were available that would give me a less lonely feeling. Also my bill arrived spontaneously without asking. I had wanted to order some desert (looked yummy at other tables) and coffee, but apparently that was not appreciated. So, no second visit from me in the future I'm afraid.More

It might have been a more fashionable place, but it can still boast some good service, meals, and prices.

We were searching for a place to eat along the main pedestrian street and many other restaurants were closed due to functions. This underground pub serves good local food and we even had a shot of local vodka! Of course draniki (potato pancakes) is a...must try. The meat roll that we ordered was quite dry. The cheese soup was great and was served with rye bread. Staff was attentive.More

Karchma has a quite wide menu with a lot of local meals. The prices are not so low, but also not dramatically high - for the 2-dish dinner for two people you should pay approx. 50-60 BYN. However quality of food was terrible. We had...żur (soup) which was nicely served in the bread with a lot of meat inside, but everything rather tasteless and the soup itself was not Żur at all but rather some kind of gray liquid with flour. We had also Draniki with caviar and another with mushroom sauce. Dranniki was nice, but both caviar and the mushroom sauce was not... mushroom sauce - again - grey, tasteless liquid, condensed by flour with a lot of meat. Great location, but if you are looking for good food this will be definitely poor choice and even worst recommendation to Belarusian cuisine.More

Very nice restaurant with traditional food. We have tried machanka there and local beer, which we truly have enjoyed. The staff is friendly, helpful and can speak a smattering of english and polish.

I think they called them gnocchi in English, but I had the standard E European large potato dumplings (called zeppelins in Lithuanian cuisine, which I know better) around meat, with lots of fried onions and "bacon" (pork fat) on top. They were tasty if a...bit oily. To drink I had a milkshake with honey and cinnamon, which was great. My companion had a mixed platter (charcuterie etc) and said it was also good.More

Here you can try some topical local food. Big selection of starters and meat dishes. Only few vege options. Unfortunately no seats outside but the basement is quite unique. Menu in English .

This is a nice place in the center of Hrodna. They cook not only belarussian food, but if you want to try something traditional you can find it here. I like their soups, also i advice to try tar-tar (be ready: fresh meat). The only...I don't like - is not a traditional music playing there almost all the time I enter to "Korchma" (they play modern pop music).More

The interior doesnt Wow you, nor does the food. The menu is based on potato pancakes, it could be more varied. The best part of our meal was the starter: a plate of pickled vegetables. Nice beer, service bit slow.
