We were there staying at he camp ground and its a short walk to the tavern and the best place for a meal or a beer. (or both) The meals were great, the service lightening fast the staff warm and friendly. The kitchen was going flat out and the meals were coming out thick and fast and the quality was... More

We assumed we would be looking at pub type food and were surprised to find a very eclectic menu. My wife is vegetarians and had some interesting dishes at this eatery. It's not fancy but the food was excellent and prices reasonable. Good beer and wine selection as well.

The only drinking hole in town. A very average pub that stops serving food other than snacks at 3pm. So all that's available are pies, chips or nachos. They refuse to even make a toasted sandwich? How hard is that?

Enjoyed a hearty meal and beers at this local pub. Really friendly staff, good food & drink. Interesting nick-jacks adorn the walls and locals come and go. Like all things in Punakaiki this feels like a great window into the real New Zealand

We really were surprised to find such a great pub on this somewhat remote part of the country. Great Western style decor with good solid Timber chairs and tables. Staff were friendly and service was good. A very nice spot to break the journey.

We have had fantastic experiences of pub meals in NZ so happily went to the Punakaiki Tavern (it was also in our Lonely Planet suggestions to eat). We ordered the pasta as it was a vegetarian dish promising a delicious tomato and herb sauce with cheese. What we got was a HUGE dish of fettuccine pasta with a great slab... More

Stopped here for dinner on the way back from the Pancake rocks. The pub was very busy with a neat atmosphere. The food was hit and miss. As an example the steak was very good but some of the seafood appeared to come straight out of frozen packs and just deep fried. The pub has a neat atmosphere with pool... More

We stayed here for one night when visiting the Pancake Rocks. Lovely welcoming bar with friendly staff. Rooms compact but comfy, nice towel decorations on arrival! Beds comfortable, but a bit cramped in the rooms. Nice and quiet with parking outside your room. Food in the bar was poor, really basic, the sausages in the sausage and mash were like... More
